what to upgrade?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I am thinking of purchasing one of the following components to upgrade in my system. I'm looking to get a few opinions before i pull the trigger.

Current:
C2D e6300 1.8ghz @ 3.15ghz
Nvidia 9800gt

Replace with one of the following:
C2Q Q9550
ati HD 5850

??

(I'm leaning towards the CPU now for bandwidth, and the graphics card later)

What say you BuF?

You probably wouldn't see too much of a bottleneck if you really wanted to get the video card first. That's normally much more obvious in Crossfire/SLI systems with slower CPU's.

But yeah, CPU first and GPU second is still the way to go if you're definitely getting both.

Definitely get the CPU first.

I just switched over my Xeon 3110 dual core to a Xeon X3370 quad core and even though they're the same clock speed, the extra two cores for the work I'm doing....... it makes a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference.
