What don't you like about the Internet ?

Just out of curiosity, here's a flash questionnaire:

- How long have you had access to the Internet overall (friend's, library, school, etc) ?
- If you've had a connection at home, for how long ?
- What services do you use (web, irc, usenet, voip, msn chat...) ?
- What things don't you appreciate in your experience of these services (minor annoyances, technical problems, issues with other people...) ?
- What could be done to improve this experience ?

- How long have you had access to the Internet overall (friend's, library, school, etc) ? Approx. 12 years.
- If you've had a connection at home, for how long ? See above.
- What services do you use (web, irc, usenet, voip, msn chat...) ? Used to hang out on Usenet. Now it's mostly msg boards, most of them pr0n & gaming related.
- What things don't you appreciate in your experience of these services (minor annoyances, technical problems, issues with other people...) ? I hate it when people try to sneak malware into my pr0n DLs, and cashlinks with endless popups and other ad crap. I also hate social networking sites and any form of realtime communication, but those can easily be avoided.
- What could be done to improve this experience ? Probably not much, but it isn't a huge problem (yet?).

It's a breeding ground for idiots. Most people just lose control.

Been on the almighty interwebz since 1998. Seemed pretty tame back then, more relaxed and it was easier finding something. Less hassle.

I don't use many services of the interwebz because quite frankly I don't give a damn. F.e. facebook, which I think is pure poison. Don't care much for irc either, as its mostly a waste of time. Hey, in my early interwebz years I used to chat a lot, but I just grew tired of it. Forums have the right balance for me. But honestly, I still prefer talking face to face with someone.

What could be done to improve ? Throw 3/4 of the interwebz.

1. Been on the internet since before Diablo I think, so 1995 sounds right I guess? Diablo was my first online game I think. Either that or Quake.

2. See 1.

3. Used to use AOL dialup for internet and chat for the longest time. Then I found out what the IE icon on my desktop was for. So I started using that and AIM for quite a bit. This is also around the time I found out some secrets about the internet like what forums were and stuff. That's how I found out about FF so I started using that. Now I hardly ever use AIM, but I keep it around to stay in touch and get on every once in a while.

4.

- I hate IM programs and IRC pretty much, it feels like a waste of time and a chore having to 'wait' on people and keep a conversation going.

- Love forums for the same reason. I can browse/fap without interruption and reply when I want to and browse at the same time without having to worry about accidentally ignoring someone or keeping a convo going.

- Also hate social networking sites, mainly for what they are used for instead of their original intent. For me though, I just use cellphone texting to keep in touch IRL.

- Hate how the internet brings out the worst in everyone I guess. Can't really say I hate the people on the internet since I've made 'internet friends' or have fun with other people online, but a lot of the time people + internet = ****ty. I guess the whole world being in one place is the problem there though.

-Love basically everything else about it, ease of use and communication and information distribution, ect, ect. Gaming.

5. Well it already is constantly getting better in all ways pretty much. I'm not sure of anything specific I can say I would want improved the most right now, so I guess just the basics like speed and accessibility.

I don't reckon it's a breeding ground for idiots.
The idiots are already out there it's just that they can finally be themselves with the added anonymity and without the fear of catching a right uppercut.

Also remember - if you want to get rid of the asshelmets... you'd be taken off the net too. (as you're an arsehole in someone else opinion)

- What things don't you appreciate in your experience of these services (minor annoyances, technical problems, issues with other people...)?
Slow connections
****ty connections
attempts at snooping to what I use my net for
People agreeing with **** because the person before them did etc.)
Idiots that take everything written on the internet as fact without thinking about it or researching it (and subsequently being mortified when learning that it isn't)
Wikismartasses - take away their internet and they all of a sudden known jack **** about jack ****

- What could be done to improve this experience?
Not having an internet (which is not an option - ie. live with all the above or **** off, off the internet)

- Good things
Multiplayer gaming, wealth of information and resources and keeping up with people.
Free porn.

- How long have you had access to the Internet overall (friend's, library, school, etc) ?
11 years, my first access to it was at school.

- If you've had a connection at home, for how long ?
Also around 11 years, probably 4-6 months after first gaining access.

- What services do you use (web, irc, usenet, voip, msn chat...) ?
Web, Steam and to some extent the PSN network. I haven't used IRC in quite a while now.

- What things don't you appreciate in your experience of these services (minor annoyances, technical problems, issues with other people...) ?
Internet memes. It's not that I dislike all of them, but I really can't stand it when people forcibly tries to create new ones or when old ones keep going seemingly forever despite the fact that it's the same joke over and over again.

Twitter. Why the hell does every major site all of a sudden have to integrate this? It's especially annoying if it replaces a function that worked perfectly well previously.

Ad supported sites creating pointless articles, i.e. top 10 whatever, or using vague headlines on the front page for the sake of getting more clicks.

- What could be done to improve this experience ?
I don't know, really. It's not like I can control what other people like to do or what services they want to use...or can I?

I can't stand those ****ing confusing social networks and everyone on YouTube and GameFaQs. Also, anything related to chat such as IRC. I don't know but I hate that "h3y u dud" grammar.

But I love the rest of it. Tons of info, buying products, nice forums, pics, better freedom for opinions, etc...

I don't like that google is the first place people go to get facts now. What ever happened to reading a book for information. So much info on the internet is made up or wrong.

But if there is a webpage about it or someone quotes someone else famous then it must be true, right?
