No, the zombies are actually quite humorous. The entire game has a real whimsical feel. The fact is that it's just a really fun and extremely well polished TD-type game.
Yeah I bought it. Tower Defense is what I thought of, but more casual. The "Dancing Zombie" definitely has the best flavor of all the enemies.

Anyhow...
The Whack-A-Zombie and Zombie Bowling games are quite fun. The night time plants throw quite a twist to it, as does the move to the backyard.
I played this for a while and found it fun. I wish that there was more depth to the tower defense aspect (I haven't left the front yard yet) but the straight line thing is a little annoying. Doesn't really detract for the entertainment value though.
Let me just say "hills and swimming pools".
Also, the Michael Jackson zombie (complete with backup dancers) is pretty funny.
