It's for reasons such as these that the tense and always adorable Plants vs. Zombies is a masterful combination of serious strategy and cartoonish delights - and by adding mini-games, survival modes and a shop, PopCap is practically rubbing it in. The result is as fresh and accessible as Super Mario, and as refined and considered as Left 4 Dead, wading into another established genre and polishing the central ideas in a way that will make it a hard act to follow.

No, the zombies are actually quite humorous. The entire game has a real whimsical feel. The fact is that it's just a really fun and extremely well polished TD-type game.

No doubt on that. I just keep seeing Zombie themed mods/games around lately, I'm thinking there must be something really special about zombies after all..

I played this for a while and found it fun. I wish that there was more depth to the tower defense aspect (I haven't left the front yard yet) but the straight line thing is a little annoying. Doesn't really detract for the entertainment value though.
