View Full Version : Why do you map?

Pretty self explanatory, why do you map? Doesn't matter which game, but just mapping in general. For me, I guess it's all of the above. It gives me something fun to do when I'm REALLY bored ;). Of course, it's also fun learning about something that I'll most definitely never apply in real life . However, I still think I've got a ways to go before I'm better than the stock maps in UT99. And it's kind of cool being with, I think, one of the most dedicated game communities I've seen. That and listening to some of the idiots who post on these forums is pretty...uhm...interesting.

you missed a crucial option "having fun being creative".

I would regard that as 'its cool'.

Another reason is I can go and try out all the 'what if' ideas I've had in my head in regards to the game.

Because its fun... good way to kill time too.

Also because I'm paid to. :p

To get rid of stress, to enjoy being creative and to kill time.
And to keep improving.

Its fun, I learn lots, and its part of my degree and hopefully a future job.

I would map if I could make sense of the UE editor.

Then again I haven't tried to for a while.

Yeah, that kind of falls under 'It's Cool'.

seconded,
"it's cool" is something totally different. You start smoking because it's cool.

I used to map to get a gaming job, now that I have one I still map for fun and to keep my portfolio up to date with new levels every so often.

Damn. Come to think of it, I'm not sure. I think there is something rewarding about creating a source of entertainment that will be enjoyed by hundreds, possibly thousands of people. I'm not sure what category that falls under.
