Has anybody else encountered this? Apparantly there is a malwar attack of sorts stuck into a flash ad that is being displayed on several prominent websites. The attack screws up your clipboard putting a URL in it. Not even copying over new text seems to work. The attack also attacks all operating systems vista, osx, ubuntu, etc. I was browsing using firefox 3. Restarting your system fixes it.
In other news I can't seem to get into AVG. I'm not sure if this is a separate attack or part of the same. Either way AVG wont' start up, and I can't update it. I'm thinking about finally moving over to NOD32.

Here's a story about it on the register. Apparantly it's not new.

I used AVG Free until it missed some attacks and my HD became corrupted about a year and a half ago. After reformatting I bit the bullet and paid for NOD32 Home edition, haven't had a single problem since.
NOD32 is very lightweight, I've never felt comfortable running high-usage applications w/o disabling my antivirus program until I had NOD. It runs a single little kernel app that uses less than half the memory of FireFox on my machine. Despite this it's extremely well rounded and up-to-date on virus trends. By now I've had it spot a number of attack attempts all of which have been successfully stopped and/or eliminated.
I'm sure the same can be said about Kapersky or whatever the other big contenders are for light weight but effective anti-virus progs. Whichever you go with will be a huge improvement over AVG.

Yeah I just have to bite the bullet and pay to get copies for both my PCs.

That's why I block *all* adds. Even reputable websites have no control over what the ad servers dish up.

ActionScript has access to the clipboard data. GG Adobe.
JavaScript may have access, too. However, this access is disabled by default on Firefox. No idea about other browsers.

I've switched to Avira AntiVir (http://www.free-av.com/). It picks up SO much more than AVG. Less intrusive too.
If you install it, do these hacks (http://www.tipsfor.us/2007/08/15/make-avira-antivir-free-edition-more-usable/). You won't even know it's there.

I'll check them out. AVG is starting to get annoying. I tried to turn off the auto update on startup and load on startup from the msconfig menu and it seemed to do nothing but ruin everything. Talk about a touchy software.
As for flash ads, I use this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10
I'm not certain if it is supported in Firefox 3 just yet. For that reason I am sticking with v2 and Google Chrome.
By the way, can this 'hack' come from using Chrome?
