I knew it was completely ridiculous for an EULA to want someone to wave all rights to basically "anything you upload using this browser".

Whats even more ridiculous is how poorly this thread was started. There was absolutely no relevant information given in the body of the text or the subject, which is fine if you want to catch someone out with a tub girl or goat se picture but not good if you intend any replies.

That probably came off harsher than I intended, but what can I say? Brits are always the bad guys...

Regardless of any retraction, I'm still steering well clear of Chrome due to the EULA.

I don't know anyone IRL who's willing to try it either, for much the same reasons.

Its obvious not much thought was put into the EULA when it was initially released. It was just a copy/paste of the EULA Google uses elsewhere with a few parts changed.

Also remember that you can get builds of Chromium (essentially the same thing but without the branding) and not be bound by any usage license.

Any interest I may have ever had in Chrome is gone... which was only slight, as it doesn't do extensions.

Are we sure it is a fault ?
Could it not be more like an 'oops ... now we have revealed our plan for world domination a bit too soon ...'-thing ?
Google practically 'owns' a copy of the internet due to its massive search-engine ...

I wonder how many people are even remotely aware of the contents of the average EULA ?
I haven't seen a single one that did not have stupid statements like Google's.

Don't assume conspiracy, when stupidity suffices.

I'm just waiting for it to somehow find its way back in after people have downloaded it, working in a retroactivity clause to say "anything you transmit or have transmitted".
