On...how to play fantasy football? The simplest explanation is:


You and your fellow "managers" draft teams of NFL players prior to the season. This is done online, either live or automatically based on the provider's player rankings. Yahoo by default requires (I believe) at least 1 quarterback, 2 running backs, 3 wide receivers, 1 tight end, a kicker and a team defense. You also get 5(?) bench slots to work with.
The most popular gameplay method is competing against the other managers using the players you've drafted on a week-to-week. Ergo, you play one team on week, then another the next week, and so on. You gain points based on your drafted players real-life performance in a variety of statistical categories, and the person whose starters accumulate the most points wins the head-to-head matchup.
Players can be swapped from their bench position for bye weeks, injuries, etc. Players can also be added from or dropped to the free agent pool. Rosters generally must be set within 1 hour of the player's game (typically 12PM on Sunday).
Regular seasons typically run until Week 13 or 14, with 3 or 2 playoff rounds to decide a champion. One way or another, leagues usually end before Week 17 in the NFL as that week is typically shutdown time for the teams who are heading to the playoffs.

not everyone can make the draft. I missed it last year and I was running the league.
