View Full Version : What do MRI's discover?

So a good friend of mine screwed up his back a few weeks ago, and had to get two MRI's. The results came back, and the doctor called to say he wanted to talk to him about something in them, but it had nothing to do with his back. The doctor didn't want to talk about it over the phone, so my friend has to wait until Tuesday to see him. So needless to say he's freaking out right now.
What kinds of things do MRI's discover that would make the doctor want to talk to him in person?

They show a lot of things but my guess is the reason for the in person visit is to see and discuss whatever the images show
Would be easier than to describe an image over the phone
Hope the best for your friend

Yeah that's what he's worried about. The MRI was taken because of his back, but the doctor said what he wants to talk about with the MRI's has nothing to do with his back.

MRI's show just about anything internal. I hope your friend is fine.
On a side note, if you're a mechanic make sure you get a full body xray before going into an MRI machine. Metal in the body is like metal in a microwave oven while an MRI is going on.

MRI's show a LOT of things, so no guesses.
That being said, I've never, ever had a doctor who would discuss anything over the phone. The only things they'd ever say anything about were to confirm that step test (or whatever) was negative. Anything else they make you come in (because then they get to charge).

we don't even get told if everything's ok in england.
tell your friend that there's more chance of it being something minor than it being major.
good luck

Yeah as far as i can tell if there's nothing wrong with you they won't contact you at all and if your at all curious you can ring up and book an appointment for them to tell you nothing is wrong. T'is a great system, they're not interested in you unless you've got something to cure.
Hope your friend is well though Angel Mapper

I've had two and one showed a ruptured appendix and the other a bacterial infection. The second showed up as a lump, or mass more specifically. If you made me guess, I would say it's probably some sort of lump they want to check further. We get all sorts of lumps and bumps and the majority of them are treatable/removable.
It's easy for me to say not to worry unless you have to, but I've been there and know it's impossible. Just keep a positive outlook and hope for the best. Keep reminding yourself that most things they find are easily taken care of.
The best to you and your friend Rachel.
