He sold beer to a "secret-shopper" who was 22 years old without ID'ing him first. So the employer, Varamark, fired him on the spot.
This guy is an institution at Blue Jay games. My daughter, selling lemonade on my front lawn screams out "Ice....... Cold....... Lemonaaaaaaaaaaaaaade" because of Wayne :(

So was your mom, but she screams like a stuck pig :)
Yeah, he was supposed to ID anyone who looks under 25 or 30 years old. They guy he sold to was of legal age, but should've been ID'd. He'd already passed 6 "secret-shopper" tests, so firing him on the spot really sucks.
As you can tell by the various videos of him on youtube, and the over 10k people who joined a facebook support group for him, he was very well liked. It's always fun going to a Blue Jay game and seeing him calling out his Ice.....Cold.......Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! for the crowd. Firing him for this is only going to hurt the Blue Jays and their home game experience. I hope they muscle Varamax into changing their position.

Saying that ICEEEEE COOOOLDDD BEEER everytime in that way. Doesnt that hurt his voice if he has to that every day.
Also I dont get you Yanks with your whole obsession with legal drinking age. I mean 21? ugh. But yeah firing is kinda lame its not like he is selling it to 13 year old punks.

Actually, it's in Canada and the drinking age is 19 years. Still very lame though.

why not 21?
Is that too conformist for you?

Maybe Canadians are just responsible enough to handle it at 19. Although I actually thought it was 16, Morety, has that changed recently? Or is that smoking I am thinking of? I don't do either and on top of that, I am 27, so it's never been something I cared much about.

21, wouldn't be conformist, 18 would be. :P (The US is the only country where the legal drinking age is that high)
It's 16 here... which matters little as everyone's getting leathered @ 14.

This is the single greatest retard patriotism image I have ever seen. This is getting saved on my hard drive.
It combines everything americans use, giant cars, guns, tits. Unfortunately it's missing fast-food and some fatass kid in the background falling off his big wheel.

So he might have been 22, but he could have looked older than 25. So he failed one test? He didn't break the law.

Oh sorry but 19 years? I expected it to be 18 years tops for them Canucks. Lame indeed but in Netherlands the drinking is 16 for light alcoholic drinks (beer etc) and 18 for the heavy stuff.
However for the past few years our politicians have gone on the nanny tour. I mean we even had a TV show called "drink less"(IIRC). It was about how less drinking would improve your life. The programs message wasnt for hardcore alcoholics but for casual drinkers. I mean how the hell can you fill 30 mins of airtime with this kind of crap. Granted it was on public television but man that was one of the lamest TV programs EVER!

Lame you know only in America something this stupid could have happened. I mean the guy buying the beer was of age and I am sure that guy has been doing that so long he can guess your age pretty well.

I've worked at a couple liquor stores here in colorado and if we got caught on a police sting, not I.D'ing somebody, the store could (and probably would) lose their liquor license.
It's really quite common and I don't think anyone questions it.
You should only sell to hardcore regulars without asking for ID, mainly because of stings like this.
I don't feel sorry for him at all; he should have known.

Our smoking age was raised from 16 to 19. Our drinking age was 18 but moved to 19 about 10-20 years ago? It's been there for a long time.
I wish I could see a picture of the guy who was the "secret-shopper" so I could have a chance to see how old I think he looks.

I worked in a gas station for about six months here in NC, we sold beer. If I did not I.D. everyone trying to buy beer who looked like they were under the age of 35 (28 for smokes) then I'd get fired on the spot. If ALE was doing a sting, I'd be fired, put in jail for three months, lose my driver's license for a year and also have to pay a hefty fine (it's anywhere from $2,500-5000 depending on the nature of the offense.) It doesn't matter if the person I sold to was legal age or not. It could be my own father and if he looked under 35 and I didn't I.D. him I'd be gone quicker than ****.
So yeah, selling Alcohol is serious business. He shoulda known better.

Sucks that guy got fired though, if the kid he sold to was actually of legal age he should've just been retrained or told off not totally fired. It doesn't make much sense to me though, who decided that this secret shopper that was in fact of legal age "Looked" like he wasn't of legal age, is there some sort of accurate, fool proof way of determining a persons age that can be falsified to make this secret shopper test infallible? Maybe the icecoldbeer guy was simply better at determining age than the guys who sent the shopper.

I call Bull**** regardless. I think its the fact they couldn't afford him anymore regardless of his popularity so they did this just to dump him. Will they admit to it? Fu*k no, why ? Becuase its asshatery like that if openly admitted would kill companies quicker than a fly at a bug zapper convention. I live in utah.... where if you say boo sideways the wrong way, and your boss or supervisor didn't liek the way you said it? OUT THE DOOR ON YOUR ARSE IT IS , no reason has ot be given its after all . "A right to work" state.

The real question is :
if that guy hadn't shouted "Ice cold beer" in his funny/messed up voice
would he still have received as much 'support' ?
I doubt anyone would have given a damn ...

Or perhaps:
Who did he shout "ice cold beer" at loud enough to piss them off so that they had him mystery shopped?
If you ask me I don't believe the punishment is proportional to the crime committed. Any crime that isn't inherently violent in some manner or theft usually has a sentence too high.

If you were an 88 year old American you would have had to wait until you turned 34 to legally drink.
