I download the OFFICIAL patch for Age of Empires: The Conquerors Expansion, from Microsofts own site, and apparently it's a Trojan. :hmm:

Do you think I should use it anyway? Trend Micro must be wrong...

As a matter of fact, I played it a few days ago. Still lots of fun, even though Rise of Nations did it better.

Probably a false positive that will be fixed the next time your virus scanner updates its definitions.

it's probably tripping the heuristics. switch the heuristics filter off and re-scan the file. bet u a used tissue it doesn't flag.

Yup. No luck though...
I downloaded the same patch from Gamershell, and that too was 'infected'. Looks like Trend Micro Internet Security is full of sh*t. :)

Of course! AoE III is a splendid game, but I still like this one better. I find it just as playable as it ever was, and AoK + Conquerors expansion = endless variety.

How do I do that?

Youre not alone in this. AVG said that most of the files on my Assassins Creed directory were trojans.

It should be in the scan options itself. The page where you choose what or where to scan.
Never used trend micro mysef though.
search the local help files for "heuristics". Heuristics means it's looking for code that is similar to known viruses. that's why certain virus software will flag up when others won't. depends on how sensitive they are.

From what I recall, going from "standard" to "one-step-after-standard", the AI was either really easy, or extremely hard and "god of clicking". I used to play a lot during my 166-300 Mhz days. Along with StarCraft.

And it is also possible that it has viruses, the other sources may have been updated with it too, that actually happens from time to time with certain things, so be carefull.
You should try dl it from some really old and independand source, such as the gamepark, they have patches in there.

If it still says it has virus then it's probably the antivirus really messing thinmgs up, but I thonk it's worth trying.

There is only aoe games running in the internation version of the site as compared to many in the normal version (the international ver still uses the old design of site, not the new one too, as the international vertsion isn't well supported), I tried to convince them to put more games there for international players as I am admin in the Unreal section of the czech (not international) version of this site, but I didn't get enough players either to be wanting to play, nor did they allow it in the end.

It would make things much simpler if download sites simply displayed an md5 hash like filefront does. Also, a new standard should be made so downloads can be encapsulated so it's possible to verify where a file actually came from using some sort of electronic certificate.
