We've known about it for a while years, but it was nonetheless nice to see the next Wolfenstein formally announced for PS3 and Xbox 360 tonight. Activision, id, and Raven Software have finally shown a trailer showcasing the fruits of their collective labor – one that's over rat-a-tat-tat fast.
It was revealed that the game's most intriguing hook will be the ability to enlist the aid of underground resistance in combating a nigh-endless flood of nazis. Nazis who are attempting to rip open a hole between our dimension and one called "Shrell," which we assume is Raven's way around officially licensing "Hell."
id's Todd Hollenshead, who was on hand to introduce the quick clip, announced that more footage (and, we hope, details) will be dished out at QuakeCon on July 31.

Complete with teaser movie.
Now this is something I am looking forward to indeed :)

Yeah, maybe. It's been a while since RTCW, but that was a good game. Raven really delivers, sometimes.
Got to love the monotonous voice at the end of the movie "pwoduct not yt ratd" :D

I really liked RTCW, so I'm looking forward to this one too. I just hope they don't spend a lot of time on the multiplayer component because I'm not interested.

Agreed. I'm hoping for a good single player like RtCW.

RtCW was Savage!! I only hope this lives up to it. Raven are a great studio but they've done some questionable games.
I wonder what engine its using, IDTECH4 or IDTECH5?

Your quoted story failed to mention that it will be availible on the PC as well. This is a very good thing because FPS's do no work on consoles... ever.
I am however not thrilled about the "the ability to enlist the aid of underground resistance" part. Too many good FPS's of late have used this now tired and never any fun trick to change the one-man-hero aspect of FPS's into some kind of team/squad/unit venture (Call Of Duty, Metal of Honor, I'm looking at you). I want to explore and murderize Nazi zombies, not micro-manage a frigg'n squad of fellow soldiers. I hope this is a VERY small part of the game.

There seems to be a lot of argument over this on the internets from what I've seen. I can't seem to find something that provides an official answer.
I'd guess IDTech4 because like Slainchild pointed out, there doesn't seem to be too much of a graphics leap. But that's not to say it couldn't be 5 either. When the tech demo for Rage first showed, I got the impression there wasn't much updates to the actual graphics, just features and capabilities of the engine. In my opinion, Rage looks better than IDTech4 games mostly due to high polygon counts, better textures and attention to detail. All thanks to much faster hardware than we had in the days of IDTech4. Who better to utilize the engine in a game than it's creators.
This Wolfenstein was announced at least a year ago around the last E3. It was clear it was at least running on IDTech4 at the time. But there's been almost no news on it until now.

I thought COD4 pulled off the "squad" pretty well - i.e. they did their own thing and generally stayed out of your way.

Well then, I take back what I said about MOH & COD.
"Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault", was heavily squad based, but I got through it ignoring my squad as much as possible. I just checked and "Medal of Honor: Airborne" and it seems to be not so much squad based, or at least you can get through it acting as the one-man hero. I might just give it go.
I had given up on MOH series since they abandoned the PC with COD3, But, since it's back to the PC with COD4 and Hal says the squad will "stay out of my way", I just might give it a go too.
Thanks Hal, you just cost me a lot of money.
Edit: (back on topic):
We should know more about Wolfenstein (maybe a release date or time-frame) after Quakecon (August 1st).

I bet you'll be glad you bought it. COD4 is a really sweet game online and off.

Am I the only one who thought Wolf3d was better than RtCW? Screenshots remind me too much of RtCW :(
