As some of you may know, I work on heavy equipment and as such we have a big yard to store everything. A few weeks ago we found a stray cat with a litter of 3 kittens tucked away under a large wooden beam in our yard. fast forward, and we have kittens roaming around places they shouldn't be, like inside box iron rails, tractor wheels, etc.. We also have red tail hawks around looking for a tasty treat... Anyway, today I hopped a fence, scaled a pile of beams, and braved rusty metal to retrieve Princess from certain doom....

It's odd to find such cat hidden down there. I can't say anything but nice find. That's the kind of cat the GF wants.

BTW, What's up with Rambowjo trying to be funny?

BTW, What's up with Rambowjo trying to be funny?

He fell into the 4chan pit and can't get out. He's at the stage where he thinks he is being funny on other forums because its funny there, when in fact, he isn't, because it's not.

I've saved a kitten once! It was hardly as dramatic as Zen's act of heroism, but I saved one of my kitten once from being strangled by a rubber ball attached to a string. The poor little thing was meowing for help while the other kittens were playing with the ball hanging around his neck.

If no other employee takes them in a weeks time I'm going to get them to the local "no kill" shelter, along with the mother cat (if I can catch her)

A stray kitten just waltzed into my house via the back door one summer evening. No collar or anything so there were no means of identifying it. Had to shut it out eventually, then it simply snuck into my aunt's house (lived on the same street at that time) and she kept it ever since.

Uh... We don't eat cats in China (well, I live in Taiwan, but if you consider Taiwan a part of China, then... logic works anyway)

Anyway, ni de miao hen ke ai

Good work my man.

While I was at a job in Kentucky I found a little kittn. Pitch black. It was scared of everything of course, but I gave it my chicken lunch one day. That night I bought it a water bowl and cat food. I could never catch the little bugger, but I kept it's bowl full of fresh food and clean water everyday.

I later found out that one of the guys killed it with a skytrack forklift. Apparently the kitten climbed up into the motor area and slept there because it was warm (during the winter). That guy was extremely lucky he was fired before he returned back here to Texas. I was going to pop him right in the jaw and knock his ass out.

Then today at work (another job site) a small Austraillian blue heeler (I think) showed up. It looked like a fox. It was scared of us, but I gave it some fresh clean water and pizza. Someone gave it a ham sandwhich to eat. After that it just hung around us all day. I tried to put a hard hat on her, but that was a no go. I think somone took her though. She was cute and seemed like a good dog. I pulled two HUGE ticks off her. The safety guy Fred took about 7 off her in the morning. Poor dog. We tried to do what we could for her.

Was he sorry (before getting fired)? Nonetheless, what he did was heinous, unintentional or intentional.

You can buy some over-the-counter medications for the dog, even if she's legally not yours. Just be sure no one's looking. She'll be fine thereafter.

LOL! Lots of peeps here from China. I was born in NYC, New York, though. And don't worry, I don't take racist jokes personally (unless you're intentionally trying to piss me off ;))

We eat snails, chicken feet, shark fin, fermented tofu, among other things... But my favorite is shaved ice with sweets (Westerners like it too when they come to Taiwan)

Saving kittens can only end in tragedy.

Warning: long and has a sad ending (CTRL-C'd from my blog):

Last week, we were working in the office and I heard a strange, high-pitched sound from near my feet... almost like a cat crying. I looked down.... nothing. Heard the sound again. Man, that's wierd. It was definitely like a kitten's cry. Checked around my feet some more and finally saw it, a tiny little grey tabby kitten with the pinched-eye look you typically see in cats here that indicates malnourishment. It must have wandered in through the cracked door of the office, from who knows where… there are no houses that are what I would consider within walking distance for such a tiny animal. I reached down to pet it and it responded immediately, showing no fear and reaching out to rub up against my hand. As soon as it got the idea that I was going to pet it, it started crying more and kept it up as long as I wasn't touching it. Finally I pulled the noisy little ball of fur onto my lap and resumed working.

I haven’t had any pets here and didn’t have any plans to get one. They’re trouble to maintain, and I don’t have the patience to put up with ¨accidents¨ in my house and destroyed personal items for long enough to train them. Plus, pets are always a form of roulette… sometimes you get a really great one, and sometimes you get an animal that appears to be possessed by Lucifer himself, like several cats we’ve had. So I was just hanging out with this stray kitten for a little bit while I worked, but the darn thing took to me so readily that by the end of the day it was desperate anytime it wasn’t in my lap. What was I going to do? Leave it there to get eaten by a stray dog? So I stuffed it in my messenger bag and took it home. That night I fed it a little cheese and by bedtime I already wholeheartedly regretted my decision to take it home because it was the noisiest cat I had ever seen. Anytime it wasn’t in my lap, it cried. It cried and cried and cried some more. After I went to bed, it kept up the wailing for about half an hour before finally quieting down.

The next day I fed it again and left it in the house with a plastic pail full of sand, not knowing what else to do…. When I got home, three objects in the house were peed upon, two of which luckily were sheets of plastic but the third was my bed. Little ****er managed to get my pillowcase, sheet, cover, and a spot of the foam mattress in one shot. Since I got home late, I had to sleep in the hammock with a sleeping bag over me, rebuffing attempts by the kitten to climb in with me all night long in a state of half-consciousness.

The next morning was Sunday. I was planning on feeding the wretched animal to Isaí’s carnivorous dog, Tigre, but got sidetracked with cleaning up my sheets first and then I went on to sweep out the house. While I was doing my bedroom, the kitten suddenly got a bee in its bonnet to crawl behind my bookshelf. It was back there for all of three seconds, and then suddenly emerged holding a mouse that, I am barely exaggerating here, was 2/3 as big as the cat was. It stopped kicking in another couple seconds, its neck snapped. I was amazed, considering the kitten looked like it had passed the point of being old enough to eat solid food maybe three days previous (although I think its tiny size fooled me; it was probably due more to malnutrition than age). At that point I decided she could stay (Pretty sure it's a female), although she’s still in the red for those sheets. I haven't named her yet and don't really plan to.

------------------------------ Entry from 2 weeks later -------------------

I figured it was time to give the ol´ blog an update, even if all I have to post is that there isn't much to post. Following the theme from last time, I guess I could talk about my cat. Man, am I really writing about my cat on the internet? I need help.

There isn't that much to say I guess, just something specific that happened with her. A couple weeks ago I put her out for the night as usual. Although I think she was finally learning to use the sand-filled pail, I didn't quite trust her yet. Around midnight I was woken up by her cries, which is sort of normal on a given night as she is quite the crier. I heard a special note of what seemed like desperation in the cry, but I was too semiconscious to pay it much mind. She quieted down after awhile and I drifted back to sleep.

The next morning, I couldn't find the cat around the house. I figured she had gotten hungry and wandered off to the neighbors' or something (which she'd already done once), which was probably why she had been crying. I went about fixing breakfast, frying an egg, then grabbing my coffee pot to take it outside and rinse it out. Suddenly, I found my kitten.

Floating in the water barrel.

I gasped in horror and then sat down heavily on the back step of my house, then cried for quite awhile. Sometimes, I really don't like myself very much. I'm not talking about suicide thoughts ¨I hate myself I want to die¨ crap, but I just get so mad and frustrated about being a ****up. That week was one of those times. I buried my cat and went back to life as normal within the same day, but it still hurts when I think about that poor little kitty who trusted me and liked me an awful lot drowning, and me within hearing distance not doing a goddamn thing. Well, that's the drama that my life was lacking I guess. Most if not all members of my family have already heard about this, but I felt it should be recorded here because I am probably going to save all these blog entries after my peace corps service for of a history of the experience to have when I get old and even more forgetful than I am now.

On a more positive note, two years ago I've saved a cat from (most likely) starvation. She, a brown burmese (beautiful cat), was literally on the edge. In spite of being slightly aggressive for food (and growling at my old cat), I felt sorry for her. There was something special about that cat, I couldn't let it go.

So, I began placing small trays of food outside. Every time a little closer to the house. She looked really bad, bewildered. But I couldn't give up on her. My old cat hated her guts :D

Four months later, all of the sudden she allowed me to touch her. Just like that, out of the blue. It quite surprised me. She had always been so terrible afraid, especially my hand. She still is (if I make a sudden move), although she does really trusts me. When she realizes it was me, she relaxes.

Someone did something really horrible to her, I'm still not sure what exactly it was... maybe she got beaten up/kicked near the window/door (she gets anxious when she's inside the house too long, she always sleeps outside), maybe a couple fighting and taking out their frustrations on her. Or their kids...

It's hard to understand, such a sweet cat. The sweetest so far. Normally cats have this typical "oh leave me alone and feed me when I feel like it bitch" attitude. Ok, sometimes she goes her own way as well BUT most of the times when I call her she comes running to me.

It's in the character of these cats to be really close to humans. But I'm sure she somehow must know that I saved her from a terrible life.

She always seems to make these grunting noises when I pat her on the head/back. It's really hilarious :D Haven't had a cat yet who does this. It seems my old cat has somewhat tolerated her presence. As he's slowly begun to realize she is here to stay.

On few occasions he allows her to sit/lay close to him, but if she crosses the line he'll either run away (like a grumpy old jealous angry man), or smack her on the head :D No claws, though.

This cat has a real tender/friendly character. I don't think she could ever bring herself to attacking another cat, though :hmm: Only if she's forced to.

Doesn't matter anyway, there aren't any challengers around.

Damn, dude, I felt bad after reading that bit. I don't know how I'd react if something like that happened to me.
