So, I've recently taken on a job that would make good use of the added functionality of smartphones (yay fuzzy-meaninged buzzwords,) and just tonight it would appear as though my old tried-and-true phone has decided to die.

So, BuFers, I turn to you. Does anybody have any advice or personal experience? I'm on AT&T so that gives some frame of reference as to what my options (http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phones/cell-phones.jsp) are.

Only for the browser, really, I'm tempted to go iPhone, but I've heard horror stories about their batteries, and really nothing else beyond the browser is drawing me in that direction which makes me doubtful thanks to the price tag. Plus I want a phone for function, not for people to confuse me for a pretentious d-bag young professional, which is a definite strike against the iPhone.

Hmm...I was about to say the Tmobile Dash (HTC Excalibur) (http://www.htc.com/us/product.aspx?id=11116) because of the WiFi but then you said you were on AT&T. Maybe you could get a unlocked one. Personally I like ones that have Windows Mobile. So maybe for AT&T you could also get a Pantech Duo (even though technically it not a "smartphone") or maybe a BlackJack II. Theres also the Blackberry Curve, or the Palm Treo 750. I would stray away form the MOTO Q, I used to have that phone, and every week something new was wrong with it.

I've got me one of those iPhones. Great little bit of kit to have as before I used to have a T-Mobile MDA Compact III and an iPod Touch which I took everywhere and because I don't drive I didn't need the GPS and T-Mobile didn't get it with Wifi.

The iPhone is great to have when you want both music/podcasts/etc and a phone with you. The browser is good and if you leave it docked up at home/work there shouldn't be any problems with battery life.

Go with a blackberry. Most decent offices are going to have a BES server so you can get your work email, etc over it.

AT&T has a decent selection of blackberries ranging from the 8700 to the new Curves

Thanks for the input everyone.

I will give the Duo more of a look, and I'm glad to have a bit of actual user input on the iPhone there.

And if anybody has any more user experiences, bad or good with any of the phones on AT&T, I'd like to read about them.

I've had AT&T for about a year and a half, and I think they are ok. Im also thinking about getting a Blackberry or a Duo myself. Right now I use the Sony Ericsson W850i.
