I am about to purchase a few various domain names for the fun and for biz.

Recommendations on a fairly well priced domain name site to purchase from? (Joker / Godaddy)
In the past my web host has taken care of this. I would like to do it manually however I do not know what else is involved with the process to connect my site with my domain.

Second half of my question is more important. ;)

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if you would be willing to change hosts or if you have a current host but www.hostmonster.com is where my site is hosted from and they are awesome :) They may do domain names only, not sure....

www.Godaddy.com. Domain names for 9.99. Can't beat that. It's incredibly simple.

www.cranberrylickersnout.com

Took 10 mins to register it, and get that up.

Free webhosting that is good (so far I like it) can be found at www.000webhost.com. It's free and no ads. The reason it's free is becuase they offer packages for sale for businesses (more bandwidth, storage etc) so it's a good free service if you ask me.

As for paid hosts, http://www.webhostingpad.com/ seems to be the best in terms of bang for your buck. Most google results for "best web hosts" will list this as #1.

You get 1700 GB of space, 17,000 GB bandwidth, unlimited domains, unlimited databases, free domain name, no setup or otherwise hidden fees, etc... All for $4.95 a month (2 year contract)! Doesn't get any better than that.

I'm going to go with:
http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/

Seriously who hasn't heard of yahoo? Month to month payments are a better fit to my style. I do not like being stuck with a webhost after discovering problems like I have for the last 3 years.

I'm still concerned about getting my domain name connected to my webhost. Everyone seems to think its an easy thing to connect the two.

Once you register your domain, it's as easy as chaning 2 text boxes of info.

You change box one from godaddy001.com to yahoowebhost001.com
and then the same for the second field. It really is THAT simple Mike.

Thats exactly what I was wanting to know.

just a side note as you mentioned Joker. When I used to work at an isp, we had no end of problems dealing with Joker. They don't register the domain for you like most companies, they register for themselves and then lease it to you, so you can't take control of it directly with Nominet or any other services.
They may have changed their ways now, as that was about 4 years ago, but i'd still be wary
