And he's given about a 3 hour interview about it. If he wasn't so high profile odds are he'd be dead by now.

http://xenutv.wordpress.com/

It's big news because he's very high up in the CoS and will be able to shed a lot of light on what they're doing. It'll be very interesting watching what comes out of this.

I hope he talks all about the various levels and how they plan to kill everyone who's not a CoS member...or at the least to enslave us all.

Not really, no.

But it's fun because Scientology is the biggest joke of the century.

They also lie, scam, extort, steal, and corrupt (and sometimes take) lives.

Why do all you guys care so much about this? Their not important at all. They are just doing what religious groups did when they got their start and are still doing today. Feeding on people's fear of death to feed them bullsh!t all the while taking their money. Its nothing new nor can it be stopped, so look at more important things.

Oh and people religious groups got their start as a cult and they still are. They just have more influence then any other cult ever, but influence doesn't change the truth.

Then don't, Deepershade. It's as simple as that.

Recently I've watched a program on scientology. Some british reporter who went to the states for an interview with a high profiled SC "leader". I was hoping it was this guy, just for the lolz.

I'll have to look up the details of the program, though..that guy ended up being stalked by the scientologists, followed around town ... they waited for him to arrive at his hotel, with a camera crew.

It ended with the british reporter finally snapping and shouting at the Scientology guy (the child actor from "my left foot" apparently). While all the time he was shouting, the sc guy remained calm and didn't stop his attack.

Yeah, there's a company that produces something similar in Europe, name eludes me much though.

*ahem* soft cakes, comes in orange, cherry, cherry with white chocolate... and sometimes they're called jaffa cakes too. must be the same company. weird.

on top of that: it's a well known fact that the higher you go up in S. chances are peopel are highly criminal. now don't you get everything done to punish ministers moelsting boys? why not follow scientologiests till there's only those left that believe but won't deceive?

I join the side of why let it grow? The argument "it's just following in the foosteps of other under-handed organizations that all too often use their power for things not in the general interest of mankind" doesn't strike me as a reason to let another one slide. Especially with a group that's responsible for things like Operation Snow White (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_snow_white), Operation Freakout (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Freakout), and running the Fort Harrison Hotel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Harrison_Hotel). Like, why offer that power? I mean, we have means to safeguard consumers from monopolies, shouldn't we have some sort of spiritual helmet and shortbus to make sure people don't stray to such transparent ills?

Suffice to say that the reporter was harassed many times throughout his filming and such for the episode. The "church" does not as a rule invite media exposure; keeping a relatively low media profile is the only reason they've survived as an organization thus far. That video of his blow-up is quite worthless without looking at the context.

Full episode's watchable here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/player/nol/newsid_6650000/newsid_6658000?redirect=6658089.stm&news=1&nbram=1&nbwm=1&bbram=1&bbwm=1), albeit in pretty lame quality. The Google video is down for whatever reason. :(

He explains a lot of the of the strange terminology along the way, but it took until like the 3rd or 4th clip to find out wtf "OT" meant. :con: Also it seems like it's hard to describe a lot of the terms without knowing a lot of about the organisation itself.

I've watched up to clip 5 of 17 so far. I'm finding this very interesting.

I'm also very curious as to how CoS is going to be reacting to all this. They have done so much for so long to ensure everything about themselves (especially at such a high level) is kept secret.

ABC Nightline did a spiffy segment last night, with interviews from Jenna Miscaviage (niece of the "Church" leader, David Miscaviage) and Astra Woodcraft, both ex-scientologists and ex-Sea Org members.

Was supposed to be shown several weeks ago, but they were waiting for comment from the Church first. They apparently only got a response the day of the broadcast (as the guy says near the end).

Parts 1 & 2 here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1wSTm_LEhU) & here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRhuvkwoTOo). Full episode (http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4722154)'s posted at ABC News now.

I find the most telling part of the interview so far (I'm on 13 of 17) was when he was listening to the congresses. (Those are basically speeches given by L Ron.)

He said that in 1964, L Ron came out saying "We have it, we have finally figured out Clear". Clear being the next level, Homo Novos, which CoS are all aiming for.

Then, through various 'congresses' throughout the years, L Ron stated the same thing right through 1970, that this time, he finally figured it out. Obviously, he hadn't figured it out or he wouldn't have to come back and keep correcting his previous statements throughout the years.

It really sounds like these higher level guys at the CoS do not know what they're doing, and have made a tremendous amount of mistakes.

I imagine that they know exactly what they're doing. The organization is always trying to come up with excuses to up donations. They have, for example, started countless construction or renovation projects such as the Super Power Building (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Power_Building) that never seem to get done whilst they badger people for donations on them. Their leader David Miscaviage also recently released new editions of the Basics courses that people have to run through again, if I'm not mistaken.

The more I hear about them, the more interested I become in what they are all about. It's fascinating the crap they get away with.

It can be pretty comical how screwed up they are and how they get away with stuff, I'll admit. I'm not aware of any other group that has such deeply rooted beliefs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenu) in aliens, has a dizzying amount of front groups (http://www.lermanet.com/frontgroups.html) (including, of course, the Cult Awareness Network [CAN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_Awareness_Network)], which they sued into bankruptcy and then bought out), has managed to harass the IRS into giving them tax exemptions (http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Cowen/essays/timeline.html) not afforded to "other" religions, has too many other friggin' crimes (http://whyaretheydead.net/) in general to list, and has a racist (http://www.solitarytrees.net/racism/deny.htm) founder who's goofy-ass voice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBuZh76CnoY) rivals Tay Zonday (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwTZ2xpQwpA)'s hilarious lack of singing skill. :p
They're over-the-top enough in messin' everybody's crap up that I sometimes have trouble getting others to believe it.

tl;dr (http://rapidshare.com/files/104911640/Packet_Gold_Rev_1.pdf.zip.html): Scientologists have crappy taste ([url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBuZh76CnoY). :D They also make me sadface a lot. :(

Sorry for the double-post, but seeing as this is kind of the current Scientology thread:
Guess who got their giant cruiser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freewinds) yanked? :p

http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/8776/68tro8nz1.jpg

WILLEMSTAD: During refurbishing and reparatory work, which involved removing the ceiling and panelling on cruise ship Freewinds, blue asbestos was released and ended up in the ventilation system.

Freewinds' captain did not report this when it's own personnel were working on the ship on the Mathey warf in Otrobanda. The Curacao Drydock Company (CDM), where the ship was taken for reparatory work on the hull, heard from the surveyor that there may be asbestos on the ship. The captain acknowledged the incident and said that after the incident Freewinds had some investigation done. Keeping the incident quiet became more noticeable when it turned out that the 40-year-old ship contatined blue asbestos.

The question is whether or not the blue asbestos dust, which can cause cancer, can be removed from the ship. The CDM has stopped all work on the ship. The ship was sealed and isolated and experts will investigate and measure the presence of asbestos dust in the hull and surrounding areas. Commissioners Eugene Rhuggenaath (Economic Affairs) and Humphrey Davelaar (Public Health) said on Friday.

CDM interim director Frank Esser, deputy head of the Department of Labour Affairs Christiene van der Biezen were accompanied by two inspectors and head of the health Department Tico Ras. Samples taken from the panelling last week by inspectors that were sent to the Netherlands showed that they contained significant amounts of blue asbestos. After an extraordinary meeting, the Executive Council decided to inform the public in general about the incident to avoid remours and panic.

The CDM personnel were also informed via the media because it was impossible to gather all the workers Friday evening to personally give them the information.

'Course, the asbestos thing has been talked about for a long time ( since before '01 - An architect's declaration (http://www.lermanet.com/scientology/LawrenceWoodcraftAsbestos.htm)) but here's rock-solid confirmation, finally.
Sucks to be them, since it's one of their big-time training grounds as well as the locale for a number of their libraries and a few huge Scientology events this year.
If you're wondering, asbestos has been disregarded by Scientologists for a long time primarily because Hubbard never gave warning of it in any of his texts and ergo it is not a concern. That's how the logic works, anyway.

Mr. UglyPants

I suppose cults in general are, yeah. They really give people a scary-huge mind****, looks like.
From what I've seen, Scientologists live and die by Hubbard's words. I guess it is his cult, after all.

Edit: Heh. The "Church" claims (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgcLdJpbdRA) that Freewinds cruises are "postponed" due to a "refitting" operation. Right (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZ2Qj4VrqIw). Also, it seems tomorrow is David Miscavige (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Miscavige)'s B-day.
