I swear we had a GTAIV thread about a month ago. I can't seem to find it though. Anyway...

To answer your question, no I'm not looking forward to it. Maybe I am the only one but driving games bore me these days. Drive here, drive there, blah. Storyline is stupid, characters seem fake and almost all the missions annoy me in way or another. I have to admit I bought all the others even those story ones(vice/liberty) and well I am personally sick of it. Its all seen it, done it. I will probably rent it though. Graphics actually look like crap, btw. I'm not a graphic guy but still those shots I saw look last gen.

hmmmm, looks like no one has seen the latest updates in the game.
( just off the top of my head)

-Rockstar will make around $400 million within a week of release
-There is so much detail in this game..... it's unbelievable e.g walking down a street in the city, people will be doing people things like smoking, cleaning windows, drinking coffee etc.
-YOU HAVE YOUR OWN PHONE, you recieve messages or (sms messages from other players online, or when in single player; calls and text messages from character, you choose the positive or negative response to them, making them like you more or less affecting the game. You can even get RINGTONES for your phone.... RINGTONES!!!!!
-You can get mugged if you're on the streets, and you could call an ambulance or police car to help you, ( you can even prank call them and steal take their police cabs.)
-You can take public transport e.g taxi's, trains to get to places ALOT faster.
-Theres a new cover and blind firing combat system
- Online up to 16 players, with plenty of game modes that are super fun. (also racing online if you're into that)
- very realistic car controlling

I don't know if people around here know this stuff, just felt like posting it cos im a bit too excited XD

Hyping a game before release only leads to disapointment.
So no I'm not hyped. Besides the PC release is at least a year away.

Why do people want the PC version so bad? It's true that there are NO LOADING times in the 360 and PS3 versions. Well maybe because of mods, but there might be some on xbox live or whatever PS3 uses.

I refuse to preorder. EBGames seems to hate people who want to buy videogames...

Since EBGames is GameStop, yes, pre-ordering with them was a pain. They didn't charge me the Anthology w/ UT3 CE, but I had to pay extra fee for the shipping as always. Thus making it a total of $80+ can. Screw this, just go to the store and buy it there. Pre-ordering is just silly with GameStop/EBGames.

Not to mention that their service is really poor, they pretty much don't know what to tell to their customers via E-mail and on their site. Too bad the threads got lost in the crash, because I'd be linking a few of them.

I'll be picking it up the day of release! This thread needs a poll though. PS3 or Xbox version.

I want to get the PS3 version becuase it has lower load times, better graphics, mods.

The 360.... well, There are more people here who own a 360 than PS3. And since half of them will play online, I'd want to do that.

I don't know if you played the original Mafia, but the game was literally like playing through an interactive movie. It had such a good narrative, it sucked you right into the game world and made you feel like you were actually there.

GTA games have never been that deep in terms of story, they were always more about the sandbox gameplay and the endless series of mini games.

I'm not saying that GTA4 won't have a good story, I just think that the creators of Mafia are more focused on the storyline rather than implementing 5 million new features and mini games into their game.

I am eagerly awaiting GTAIV. If it's half as good as San Andreas was I'll be sold. Unfortunately I don't have any consoles so I'll probably have to wait a year or two for the PC port.

Damn straight. Mafia 2 will be such total win.

Mafia was, and still is, one of the top best single player games I've ever had the pleasure of playing through. Profound storytelling, characters you could believe in (superb voice acting w/ a backstory!), outstanding plot development, diverse missions that spared no chance for action.
You actually wanted to watch every minute of the cutscenes in Mafia, amazing stuff.

On the topic of GTA4, I'm really looking forward to it. Not necessarily hyped because anything can become a let down, but I've loved the GTA series since it went 3D more and more. 3 was awesome, Vice City was awesomer, and San Andreas was superawesome numero uno. I still hop in SA now and again to blow off some steam.
The GTA games still lead the pack in the genre of nearly complete open-ended gameplay. I love the scope of the games and freedom of action, which unless Rockstar just comes down with Alzheimer's while making IV, will be represented in all it's glory with further updated graphics.

Those who say it looks "last gen" need to get their panties straightened out, GTA games have always been more about gameplay than looks.

Oh and PC games > console games any day.

Yeah it looks ok, I want to play assassins creed!

Assassin's Creed is terrible. Perfect example of over-hyped, it's all graphics and no gameplay. Mash the same 2 buttons in very repetitive combat situations and there's no true stealth and sneaking aspect like there is in say a Splinter Cell game. Save your money.

I usually get preorders one day earlier, at least where I order from. I'm guessing they send it a bit early to make sure it's delivered in time for release. :p

I know it's possible on Live, but expect to get banned at some point, especially when you play a game that's not out yet.

edit: not that I want to support warezing, I am just angry that the warezkiddies can play gta4 since 3 days while the good customers got to wait.

edit2: damn I am so not acting sober today even though I am... your xbox stores information that is sent to live whenever you go online. So even if a warezkiddie does not go online he can get banned since word got to microsoft that he'S played, e.g., gta4 before release. Nine could be lumped into the warezkiddie that has to be banned category if he goes online too soon.

Yeah, like that "lucky" guy who grabbed BioShock from Toys R' us like 3 days before the official release date IIRC. Someone surely got fired, and they got sued I think.

I dont know if it will run smoother on the PC? It's still going to be a console port after all. Besides we PC geezers have to wait a year anyway.

Let's hope they use the year to optimize it for pc and that it won't feel ported. (I'm pretty sure they're gonna nail it, GTA SA also was great :))

Essentially though i'm looking forward to GTA4 but as i don't have an Xbox360 or PS3 i can't get it even when it does come out. :S

Hopefully though i might splash out and grab a PS3 and then grab it... even then though i'd still get a PC version.

Well, I already preordered this game for the 360, I've loved the previous GTA games (since 3 that is, I unfortunately have not played the earlier versions), and this version is only going to get better.

Not rumors. Check out IGN as they have a full fledged article on the various modes that can be played. Either way this game is going to be sick

Heh the moment I saw some sort of intro start playing I just randomly hit a location and the video jumped right to it. I then proceeded to watch roughly 5 or so seconds of said footage before jumping to another section. Cuts down on the spoilers that way.

I'm predicting that GTAIV on the 360 is going to probably crash Xbox Live similar to what Call of Duty 4 has in the recent past. I've got both systems but I'll probably get it on PS3. I always preferred the ps controls for GTA and I think the graphics will look cleaner w/out the fuzz filter that 360 has on all their games.

I like the dating they put in the game, you can actually do things on it like play pool, darts, watch shows, bowling, etc. Great game IMO. Just about to play it right now. Oh right and you can watch TV and have many stations, and tons of things to watch, not just a few and repeat them. They put tons of detail in the game.

After playing IV on a friends system I'm gonna' have to steal my roomates 360 so I can play this over the summer. This time I know I won't be able to wait for the PC release. For the few hours I got to try it I can already tell this is about the most fun I've ever had in a game. Not to mention it all looks absolutely stunning.

I just wished for a moment that he didn't got back on his feet after the last motorcycle crash in that video, when right after that I seen the most priceless real time cop action from the entire GTA series. Bravo.

when things to black and white is when you die, from what I can tell. Getting hit by the cop car as it skidded sideways, and seeing his body react according, head slamming down on the pavement, was just awesome. Seeing him fly out the vehicle after a head on collision was cool.

I seriously hope the cops always do the same as I've seen in the video. I'm sick of dumb no-name standing still cops that gets out of their cars to get rammed in a raging number out of nowhere in the city.

It'd be cool to see them get on with the new system "You want cops dead - we really want you dead." Like cops trying to ram you like there's no tomorrow & using other techniques - Less in number, stronger together.

I'll try to rent it, I don't want to buy it before I played it. Looks like the best GTA so far tough.

Wish I had preordered this a while ago now. I went into Game at lunchtime today to see if i could reserve a copy, but the guy said they'd stopped taking pre-orders weeks ago. :(

He said If I come in at 7.30 tomorrow morning there would be some non-preorder copies available...

...looks like I'll be getting up early tomorrow. :-)

They weren't kidding about the amount of detail in the game. From moveable silverwear with it's own physics to watching tv with many (10?) different stations all with something different on and I haven't seen a loop yet.

I actually caught myself watching the tv in the game for around 5 or so mins before I realized that I was watching tv in a game. lol. Then I changed the channel to see a advertisement for a show called "72". Even had the countdown like 24 does (obviously making fun of the tv show 24)

There is quite a bit to do so far, and I haven't even left the apartment :P

The graphics are really good too. Alot better than I thought they would be, especially for a game this large.

I got mine. :P although like i mentioned before, i'm banned from XBL because i got a modded 360, fine by me i rarely ever went online to begin with and i'll wait for the PC MP version.

I just got an email account in the game, and getting jobs via email, and can surf the web that the internet cafe allows...limited sites, but i found a dating page and i clicked "date" to all 9 or 12 of them.

From a headline I saw this morning, it's projected sales are apparently to put it as one of the biggest selling games of all time. I'm not sure I buy that (previous GTA titles have all sold around 2 million at the most).

I wouldn't be surprised if this one hits the double digits though.
I doubt that's all they sold.
The GTA series has sold over 65 million altogether. San Andreas alone sold over 20 million units.

I reckon GTA 4 will reach the double digits quite easily and very quick :)

If games like NFS:Carbon hit double figures then GTA will easily :D (even if it's released on fewer platforms)

I guess that makes an average of around 6 million a title. I can't find figures that high for San Andreas, but looking at it, Vice City has around 18 million, which would make up around a third of all sales :eek:

Apparently GTA4 is so big that it may effect movie theater sales this weekend.

On my way to work they were talking about an article that said something like GTA4 is expected to sell so many copies that it might actually hinder movie ticket sales (Iron Man comes out this weekend)

If it does, that would just be crazy.

Picked up my copy at midnight. While I waited I chatted with a dude who claimed he knew Fata1ity(he is from KC afterall) and pretty much just chatted about the game for the next 30 minutes. Got home and played for almost 3 hours. I am loving the little touches that they added. Vehicles actually handle like real vehicles now as in its hard to slow down and take turns at high speeds. Tapping the button to get out of your car leaves the car running and you can also hear the radio outside of your car, while holding it down will shut it off entirely. Going down to the industrial area of the city I actually saw some people working, as opposed to just walking around like in previous games. Hell I even knocked some ladies groceries out of her hands, who she then proceeded to say "thats ok dont mind me".

Side note: Romans facination with titties is almost as big as mine :D

Sider note: Sucks to be the people who only have SD TV's as the game doesnt support 480i or 480p. Then again you can get some pretty decent ones for cheap so there is no excuse

I got mine. :P although like i mentioned before, i'm banned from XBL because i got a modded 360, fine by me i rarely ever went online to begin with and i'll wait for the PC MP version.

I just got an email account in the game, and getting jobs via email, and can surf the web that the internet cafe allows...limited sites, but i found a dating page and i clicked "date" to all 9 or 12 of them.

I like the addition of the cellphone. Spending time with a girlfriend to miss out on saving a cousin from thugs is something new in the GTAIV series. And Gametrailer's is right about there being no real line between the main plot and side missions. This is starting to feel overwhelming....

Crashing, nope, haven't seen any. Apart from car crashes, managed to fly out the front windshield a couple times. Had a couple cars blow up, had one car engine die on me(okay the front of the car looked pretty beat up, I lolzed as the car wouldn't start anymore).

It is bad to have a four star wanted level.

I still want to see manual transmission cars and fuel consumption in a GTA title. In real life, if I had the ability to hijack any car I pleased, I'm sure that Lambo that I just hitched wouldn't be automatic.

On another note, I want a more realistic manual transmission model in racing/driving games. In Gran Turismo you simply hit L2 and R2 to to downshift and upshift respectfully. Where's the clutch? Surely not every car has paddle shifters? I propose to simulate a clutch using one of the analog sticks on the controller. You need to hold it down to disengage it, and then slowly release it while balancing it out with the throttle button in order to prevent stalling. And yes, I want the car to stall if I release the clutch too quick or don't give it enough throttle. If it's more fun to do this in real life, then why can't we implement it in game? It would be hilarious in online mode to see the n00bs stalling, bucking, and lurching. :D

Be aware of when you need to brake/turn corners. The runaround family cars you see everywhere don't have very good brakes or steering abilities...

Don't break and turn at the same time. Break first, then turn. It took me a while to get the hang of the more 'realistic' vehicle handling, but the more you drive the faster you learn. :)

About the vehicle handling:

If it's like GTA SA, then the handling will get better as you get more driving experience.

My first impressions of the game:

It's dark, even in daylight it seems too dark. (Yes, I've adjust the brightness).
Running it at 1080, the cellphone menus are nearly unreadable, and the text messages are unreadable. (46" HDTV)
Traffic!
I miss the old HUD.
I miss the wide open spaces of GTA SA.

No way the game is 10/10 for me.

I won't be spilling all my cons around here, this game is good and fun, there are a lot of attentions put into it. But I feel like this won't last like a week. I'm already bored.

There's so many multiplayer options and games with a very few people who don't ****ing know what ready up is meant for, you spend the whole day on the UI and loading waiting for someone to show up. Oh no, the team leader got rammed by a teammates... another UI and loading. FFS. come on, I'd like to try this out with a bunch of friend, it's pointless trying to go on as it is right now with random people on this silly xbox live service. I also had to global mute because of annoying childs.

It feels like saints row all over again, but overall better. I'd rent it, seriously...
I hope the multilayer gets more interesting eventually. Also the cop versus robber is very odd the way it's set up. As the game starts, the cops all start in a cop vehicle, everyone get off the car loosing some health, while the robers start all next to each other, on foot.

I suppose the cops want their own car or pick some things up around, I don't know, but I know one thing for sure, it's boring.

Multiplayer is the worst thing about the game imho. I've only played a few games but they weren't very interesting. For pretty much the same reasons you mentioned.

The SP story and city is way way more fun to play in. I didn't get the game for MP anyway. :)

Oh and the SP doesn't really get going until after you've done all the "introduction" missions imo. A lot of the starting area missions feel like they are just teaching you how the various mechanics in the game work. But still, the cutscenes are nicely done and fun to watch, and the gameplay is great.

I'd say all the good and bad stuff of all the previous versions are still in this version.
The only things that have changed are the look&feel (especially the melee-combat and the movement as you get hit by cars and stuff) and the cop-AI.
So if you've never liked GTA then this one isn't going to change anything.

My favorites "new features", or whatever you could call them are listed below.

Pedestrians Reacting, and caring about what you do
-"WTF was that!?" - When you steal a car by breaking the window and the alarm goes on.
-"That was amazing!" - When you show them off your one wheel driving skills, or fall from a rooftop.

The way the AIs act injured to your shots, really amazing. They stand still a little too much though.
Cop evading system, quite reminds me of my first NFS:MW experience, which is awesome, even though it's a bitch to see a cop spawn at the last second sometimes.
Taxi cabs, even if they drive like retards, it's a nice concept.
The way you actually shop, (though there seems to be a lack of clothes I think)

And lastly, maybe not a feature, but how many times you hear the words "Fck", "sht" and finally, "kill" is just priceless. Also is the way that almost everyone you got money from doing jobs for them get killed, or you kill them.

I've only played about 8 hours in (I only just did one mission for Manny atm), but overall I really like the game. Except that it froze on me when loading at one point :hmm:

I liked the multiplayer. I picked deathmatch, however, and that's perhaps the difference in enjoyment. Free for all in Liberty City is just really amazing. Shooting an opponent in the head while they try to drive towards you is very satisfying.

I just finished the Jacob helicopter mission thing, I was laughing my ass off for Niko yelling at Jacob not able to get a good shot because I was driving like ****. Man that mission is so priceless...

I also laughed my ass off when Brucie asked how he looked after you finish first in the first race. RockStar has put so many attention to this character.

This game pretty much shows why you shouldn't even drink & drive.
You're better off trying to walk home until you start walking somewhat straight. And even then it's hard to drive in a straight line at any speed ...

Of course one could argue that it makes sobering up appear to be pretty fast by comparison.

I am so glad the game has auto save because I forget to go back to safe house and save. I just keep doing mission after mission. Well during one mission the game decided to crash!

Had to reboot my xbox, but hopefully this will not happen again.

It plays while the game content is loading, thus you can't skip it. I don't think it's that big of a deal.

I think so far the only thing I don't like about the game is the lack of safe houses/garages.

San Andreas spoiled the sh*t out of players with something like 20 houses and 10 or so garages. Now safe houses as a way to save have been cut back due to the autosave feature, that's fine, but I still wish I could have 10-15 cars of my own saved around different parts of the city.

Otherwise, IV is already the clear front runner for game of the year.

Small price to pay for the fact that once you're past it the game never does a single ounce of loading or preloading throughout the rest of play. For as big as the game is you'd have to expect a very small load some point early on, this intro is that load in disguise. Then you can just go for hours and hours cleanly, I think I can put up with a little load for that.
Besides, it gives you time to pack a bowl or crack open some cold ones and pour em' up into your favorite chilled mug :tup:

Heck ... I found 2 and until I tried shooting them and the game told me I had eliminated a flying rat (sp?) I wouldn't have known what to do with them.

Like all the 'important' weapons and other stuff you can find on the streets these beasts glow when you're near them.
There's one that is very easy to locate :

climb on top of the rollercoaster (sp?) ... you'll find one sitting on the rails.
shoot it with the gun

That airport is the devil in disguise. I was just taking a joyride and saw an opening that lead out to the runway. Well no sooner that I get onto the runway, I instantly get a 4 star wanted level. I was seriously like WTFBBQ wheres my ****ing pancakes at that time. During that time I found a hidden jump, which then proceeded to be completed with me crashing through the windshield, which then ended with me going to take a swim in the ocean whilst getting pelted with guns. Uggh.

to compare how large IV is to its predecessors. It's pretty crazy to see how much it has grown already. SA in the middle, with 3 in the top right and VC in the bottom left; quite a disparity. Andreas dwarfs 'em.

Also, one last bit of pluggage for my beloved San Andreas; there's a mod now for it that adds cars reflection, Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO), Indirect Lightning (IL) and bloom effects.

Well mine is officially broken also from that stupid ass freezing up/not loading saved games. It froze up twice today, once during an autosave and another time during a normal save and now I cant even load my most recent save. Im pissed off something fierce right now.

I say **** that to the whole 12 step process as a bunch of people are stating that upon disconnecting from the network there games started working again. Will post back in abit if this works.

UPDATE 2: Well I tried booting up the game without logging into the PSN and it worked. Played for about 20 minutes with no problems. I even restarted the game to see if it would boot up again and it did. Decided to boot up again whilst logged in and it booted up fine. So really I have no clue what its doing. One thing for sure is its a big problem no matter which version you have and hope a patch comes out soon. I plan to do a good amount of playing tomorrow without being connected to the internet to see if this truely is a fix for it.

I figured out how to get the max star rating. Just try to cross a blocked bridge.

All stars lit right up. It's was pretty easy to escape too. I ran on foot and lost the coppers, except the helicopters. Then I got stuck and died :(

Question about multiplayer: any way to choose how to join a game or host a game? It seems like the game randomly assigns you to stuff :(

Try? I explored the whole other island without even doing the first mission, just drive your car onto the subway tracks and drive across to the other side. :p Though you will still get max stars. I agree it is pretty easy to avoid them, I got away without dying, kinda cheap that a whole army can't stop one guy.

oh that's awsome. I'm gonna try it out. I just drove across a bridge, I was going full speed in a Viper then I hit the concrete wall (which I didn't see). I thought I could pass through the armored trucks :(

I've played the game for about 7 hours now. I just completed my first mission :)

Russian Revolution was pretty insane as far as missions have been.
Although it was made more difficult because I wasn't alone :(

When I did the mission "Dust Off", where you have to steal a helicopter, one of the guys guarding it decided to hold on to the landing gear(or w/e it's called) as I flew off. He actually managed to hang on for quite a while, before falling to his death.

I like when people latch onto their car, i make a few turns and run them over with the last turn and take their money when they die. I also like stealing cars when there are 2 or 3 people in, take the driver out and have 1-2 people left in it all scared and wont jump out untill the car completly stops. JOY RIDE MUDA PUCKA!!!!!

Sadly, I had to take advantage of the Gamestop 7 day return policy and return my copy of GTA IV for PS3. The game was just too violent. Just kidding.

Actually, I had been playing for a good while and then the freeze up issues began. It happened a few times in-game and then it started to happen after the initial load, while loading the most recent save. It would show "loading bull in a china shop" for example and never fully load up. I deleted the game data several times, including saves, starting from scratch, and that still did not alleviate the freeze ups. The PS3 I was playing it on was my 20 gb model, and though I could have tried it in my 40 gb one, I just didn't want to go through the trouble. I'd rather have had it on PS3 but oh well.

I ended up getting it on the 360 and it works great. The graphics are not as clear and the lighting does not seem to be as well done as on the PS3 version, but it's fun. I might end up picking it up on PS3 again once they patch it, so I can kill Cpt.Toilet and Buddyleeth :)

I'm on the last island around 54% done. Had to take some time off going carnage after playing nonstop missions. It's also great to have friends who enjoy doing the taxi and dope delivery missions.

So I take Roman out for some food, blablabla, arrived, eat, go back.. and I drive up to the drop-off point, he says thank you for the food, call me again soon.
Next he punches my in the face while still in the car, pushes me out the car and takes over control of the car while shouting 'sorry but this is MINE!' He then gets out himself and walk back to the apartment. :lol:

I had that happen to me as well. However given that I had parked next to another car it actually made some sort of sense that he would try to get out on the driver-side. :lol:

The best thing to do in the hospital is to toss one of those motivo things (SP I know, you know the bottle and fire thingy) at someone near the entrance.

Once that person is on fire they squirm around spread fire. In a panic the other people try to leave but they catch on fire too.

Soon I had a whole lobby filled with blackend remains. lol

Were you connected to the internet during all this time. My crashes stopped once I disconnected and my roomate hasnt even connected his from day one and it hasnt crashed. Course no one on the 360 end has even stated if they were connected to the internet at the time of their crash either? Maybe it varies

I agree, however their intent was clear to have a game based entirely in the heart of the nitty gritty sh*tty city. Liberty City as it exists now is a work of art, all the details are there and it's just as massive if not more than SA.
True, it's solid city for the most part but I think that's pretty cool just to have something different from the previous title.
Because really that's quite an accomplishment. Instead of building a few "mini" cities with a few somewhat open areas inbetween they constructed the largest city area I've ever seen (maybe that True Crime Streets of LA rivals it, that map was a monstrosity (http://www.mobygames.com/images/i/09/20/188120.jpeg) click that) in a game.

It's a personal thing I guess but it's great fun for me so far. After playing SA a couple months you knew every knook and cranny and side street. I'll be lost in Liberty 2.0 (remember, a child's version appeared in gta3) for awhile methinks.

I have not gotten to the second island but that's cool that Kat Williams is there his material is usually pretty good.

But I was playing last night and some hilarious **** happened. So I took Little Jacob out to eat, and then dropped him off at his place. As soon has he got out of the car, Little Jacob got hit by a police cruiser and flew a down the street for a couple of yards! :lol:

Still increased my rating with him but found absolutely funny that he got nailed but the cop car, got back up, and walked backed to his place like nothing happened.

I just had a really random thing happen to me. I was cruising around Alderney in a Cavalcade when all of a sudden two black Huntley Sport's came at me at an intersection, attempting to run me off the road. I managed to get out of my car and get behind a solid fence. So what do they do? They started ramming the fence to get to me. In the end they both died from ramming the fence too hard. :lol:
What was so strange about it was the fact that it was a completely unprovoked attack and the Huntley's were driven by civilians.
