Had a problem with a mesh which used an alpha texture

The problem was in the texture file, compression in UnrealEd caused the edges of the texture to go fuzzy which somehow caused that problem in the above picture.
Fixed by editing the uvwmap and texture by bringing the edges inward and having the alpha go over the edges of the uvw co-ordinates of the box (sorry for the bad explanation )
