A completely operational RPG for UT3 which supports all UT3 game types!

Features levels, experience, Mana, magic weapons, artifacts, player classes (optional) and full ability management. BattleRPG is highly customizable. Includes Galtanors Invasion.

With BattleRPG each player gets a persistent level and persistent experience. This means the server keeps a database and remembers your achievements permanently. For each point you score you get experience, if you have enough experience you go to the next level. Besides experience and levels you also collect Mana. Mana can be used for artifacts and for the Ultra GIB and Quantum weapon magic.

For each level you get some RPG$. With those RPG$ you can buy abilities like Health bonus, Weapon speed, Vampirism and Quick foot. BattleRPG also has magic weapons like Quantum, Bounce, Knockback and Ultra GIB. BattleRPG also has artifacts like God Mode, Spiderpig and Mana Gambling.

Go to http://www.onsrpg.com/battlerpg.php for download. Includes manuals and all source code (GPL V3).

New in V9:
- New magic: Quantum that slows down your victim Matrix style (uses 1 mana per level per hit).
- New magic: Knockback to use your opponents as que balls.
- New magic: Force and slow motion for faster or slower projectiles (rockets, shock balls).
- New magic: Bounce for bouncing projectiles (rockets, shock balls, plasma bolts).

- Removed Kamikaze to improve compatibility with custom maps not having a redeemer.
- New NeededXPFactor setting that allows admins to tune the amount of XP needed per level (default=100).
- New MinimumLevel setting that allows an admin to have all players get at least this level.
- Ammo regen now generates ammo for all weapons you are holding, not just the current one.

I've played that Invasion thing with this mutator like month ago and it was fun. I don't say that's my fav UT3 gametype, but still... distilled unexacting fun. :-)

Leveling works good with Invasion. When I played some RPG-ONS back in UT2004 it wasn't that fun because better (or simply longer playing) players had additional advantage. In that case making it harder for winning team - like TAM does - is better for enjoying the game (for casual gamers at least). But Invasion - good. :-)

Leveling works good with Invasion. When I played some RPG-ONS back in UT2004 it wasn't that fun because better (or simply longer playing) players had additional advantage. I implemented exponential leveling in BattleRPG (actually my own flavor of RPG for UT2004 also has it). This means most players will be between level 80 and 110 no matter how much time they invest in playing the game:
* The first 25 levels are very easy to get players to learn how RPG works
* Reaching level 80 requires some serious playing but is doable
* Level 100 is tougher to reach
* Over level 100 it becomes hard
* Over level 110 it becomes extremely hard
Also some servers (e.g. NIR_Meteor) don't let players start at level 1 but at a higher level (e.g. level 50).

In that case making it harder for winning team - like TAM does - is better for enjoying the game (for casual gamers at least). But Invasion - good. :-) My Battle Team Arena and Battle Freezetag Arena gametypes both have a chalenge mode that does exactly this.

I try to make everything balanced but with RPG it is indeed harder to achieve.

I'll definitelly check these both out because I'm also interested in UnrealScript and if I understand it correctly - you deliver source codes as well, right?

RPG in a pure PvP style is always potentially frustrated from the start. Important thing is to be rewarded a lot for killing someone better - or simply have chances to gain levels even without it (experiences for damage, various goals, good teamplay, etc.). This is why with Invasion it works very well - because the waves are starting with easy difficulty going to higher and you're not fighting someone many levels above you.

However you can't change nature of RPG (it wouldn't be RPG anymore ;-)) and it's good that you bring this to UT3 for ppl who like that. I'll try it too.

About BTA/BFA - it's obviously the same thing (more or less) like TAM/Freon. 3SPN or... GaimTheory or whatever it is now... does it have the mod ported to UT3? In case they don't you can gain nice twist with BTA/BFA. :-)

Important thing is to be rewarded a lot for killing someone better - or simply have chances to gain levels even without it (experiences for damage, various goals, good teamplay, etc.). Agreed, BattleRPG does this by giving players a XP bonus if they kill someone with a higher level.

In case they don't you can gain nice twist with BTA/BFA. :-) It is not a port of TAM / Freon although there are many similarities of course. I made them from scratch. The Titan community asked me to create freezetag for UT3, so I made that for them according to their wishes. When I released a prototype version of it I got several requests to also create a regular elimination gametype (without freezing) so I did that as well.

Personally I play mostly RPG.

Ive been having alot of fun with this,

I hav recently learned on moddb that the creator of heaven of relics is making a similar mutator for ut3 so i hope that battlerpg and relic madness will play nice

I was just thinking.... for some strange reason i cant config the mutator on windows standalone :(
that and how nice it would be if the ut3 engine could handle an invasion gametype with the skarj from unreal 2 ..

Actually making BattleMOD was mostly to learn about UT3 development. BattleRPG and Battle Team/Freezetag Arena is the "real stuff" I am currently working on. No plans (yet) to do a new BattleMOD.

Oh, sorry, dunno why i wrote Battlemod, meant to have said BattleRPG. I clearly make too much mods :D. As to BattleRPG, I am in part waiting for Galtanor to fix the download problems in his latest release. Also I have been working on BTFA a lot the last few weeks. But there will definitely be new versions of BattleRPG.
