I don't believe that they sound better or are more comfy or have a better mic than my Sennheiser PC 350 (http://campaigns.senncom.com/g4me/), considering Sennheiser produces quality studio equipment (both headphones and microphones) for decades ;)
About true surround vs. simulated surround ... I rather have one very good speaker per side than 4 reasonably good ones. We have just two ears anyway, and sound cards are quite good meanwhile at providing true 3D sound with 2 speakers, simulating frequency cutoffs from the back and all.

Uh right. Since this is a general forum and people do use gaming head phones and I use these headphones for playing UT3!!! OK! So get over it

Almost sounds like advertising.
The guy in the video is wayyy too bitchy. "The Answer is our product!" can only make you look more retarded as a vendor, because there's always another good pair around (If not better) from another bran.

Uh right. Since this is a general forum
It's for UT3 related topics.
Now since you said "I use these headphones for UT3!" that makes much more sense, having it in the UT3 board.
So get over it
I find that offensive!! :mad::mad::mad:
Srsly? If you had mentioned you used them for UT3 then I wouldn't have said anything against it in the first place.

Well since this is a UT3 forum..... Logically speaking that would have been pretty much a givin  ...... dont you think? since there are people that use headphones with a mic for gaming and since the video did state those headphones were for gaming  and since UT3 is a game is it not? Logically speaking

While we're on the topic of headphones, let me say that I think that most 'gaming' headphones are ****e. They often have some ubercool gizmo or megacomfort-earpads and fourdimensional noise-cancelling headphone that also makes cappuccino, but when it comes to actual sound quality I find most of them lacking.
I can really recommend getting good hifi/audiophile headphones and using a normal desktop mic in combination with them.
This is because gaming headphones are often focused on looking cool/leet/pro, and sounding loud.
The sounding loud part is accomplished by using 'closed' headphones, while most experts will say that 'open' headphones (the ones that let through some environment noise) sound better. Also the bass is boosted beyond ridiculous and the frequency range tends to be compressed (inferior speakers/circuitry)
I mean, really .. if your case fans are really so loud that you have to use sound-blocking headphones, it'll be way cheaper just getting a better case fan than getting good blocking headphones.
Personally I use Grado SR-60's. Excellent sound quality, powerful but NATURAL bass (not the over-amped sh!t found in cheap headphones), very good positional audio and a very 'open' sound. (It sounds like you're listening to the audio in a large, well-isolated room instead of having the sound source right in your ear. More natural)
I also use them for silent guitar practice (through 100W amp), iPod, stereo and recording.
If anyone is looking at great headphones without dropping $300 for a pair of Senns, look into them.
It's one of the least known brands that makes an EXCELLENT product, comparable to headphones 3x it's price.

I've only ever heard bad things about 5.1 headphones. Apparently they're all gimmick with little to no substance.
I have some Sennheiser HD280 Pros. Would love to get an open-air set from them like the HD555s, but that's way down on my to-buy list at the moment.

They sound awesome to me. Love the way you can adjust for the surround sound. Its real easy to say something is crap when a person has not tried them you tried it yourself. All I was trying to do is have people check out the video and maybe it would be somthing they may want to check out thats all no big freakin deal!

You're kinda right, and exactly that's why I went with Sennheiser. I actually went to the local audiophile musician store (http://www.musicbase.ch/index.php) to buy them over of a computer or (worst option when it comes to hardware) games store. Sennheiser is one of those brands that don't just make gaming headsets, but actually have a good reputation in HiFi circles, speaks for them a lot IMHO. I just like the comfort of having the mic built into the headphone myself for comfort, that's why I really prefer a headset over separate headphones and mic by a large margin.
Also, keep in mind that studio headphones are usually closed as well, and I guess those guys know what they want when it comes to quality - and additionally, at a LAN or something you don't want to have just the options of hearing the whole hall or destroying your ears by cranking up the volume enough to properly hear the game. I actually have my volume lower now with the closed headphones than I had with the cheap open ones (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/headphones/devices/203&cl=ch,de) I had before, even at home.

Hm, I hear you should be able to get replacement parts for Sennheiser headphones, but I guess for that you'd have to know what exactly it is that is broken (or prepare for a lengthy and most probably expensive procedure).

I have a Sennheiser set... completely forgot what model, any way to check without the box or manual? It has a mic on it, I think they were probably the PC161s or something, are those any good compared to the HD555s or whatever? :p
In fact, can someone tell me what the hell the difference is between all the models that cost pretty much the same amount? Like wth are the HD515games good for when people seem to use the HD555 or what about the HD515s compared to the HD485s? :p
Also why the hell is it that every single headset I've owned the damn volume on each side isn't effing consistent? Not even Sennheiser can prevent that? Hell I'd rather have logiteks if it means even sound on both sides (which it doesn't) Oh and don't say the ones I got are a special case, it's because of the volume changer halfway down the cord, but hell if they are so good quality you'd expect them to not have that crap. :( /rant

According to the tests I read, not really for music, but for gaming they are :) - the PC 350 seems to be up on par with the H 555s for music, although mids and heights are stronger for clearer voices and thus music suffers a bit compared to games, but the HD 595 seem to be noticeably better. The bass seems to have a bit more force with the PC 161, apparently, but the overall audio resolution and spatial sound placement seems better with the PC 350.
That's all just "I've heard" and "I've read" though, I haven't compared them myself and I guess I wouldn't have what it takes to be a real high-end audiophile anyway, due to lack of references :) But I really start noticing how much I was missing now, my personal turning point was when I got the headset and started noticing how much the onboard sound card sucks when it comes to crackling or inconsistency - something I didn't hear with the old ones or the cheap-ish speakers I'm using.

I also have the HD280 Pros. I use them for gaming and podcasting, and they're awesome. Not much bass at first, but after some breaking in it's suddenly there and it rocks.
I used to have the PC150s, and although I bought them for gaming, they were surprisingly good for watching movies, too. Dialogue was always so clear.

Fair enough, but for me it is important as I use my headphones for everything be it gaming, listening to music, watching films while my GF is asleep, or listening to the Quake II soundtrack whilst going for a walk.

Going for a walk is indeed not a thing I'd do with mine :D but I'd be scared for them anyway, even fake leather doesn't respond that well to being wet - I rather use cheap ones for outside...
