I'm watching the live E3 Nintendo conference now and I'm blown away. First time I wanted a console in a long, long time. 27 games playable tomorrow, I've been watching this for an hour and I want to play all 27.

I'd comment on the conference, but I took a shot every time someone made a Wii pun, and now I think I'm gonna call my exwife at 4am in the morning.

Seriously though, they weren't kidding when they said graphics aren't the focus. The prettiest game is maybe Zelda or Metroid, while the rest compete decently with current gen graphics. A lot of the new franchises (and mario) look interesting, but there's only a glimpse to go by.

Also, even though only 480p's available, it looks like widescreen is more popular amongst Wii developers. Thank god.

On the DS front, Starfox and YOSHI'S f'king ISLAND 2.

Nintendo's really pushing it.

I thought the graphics in most games were great. They have a distinct look to them, kinda like N64 was back in the day. The way you can control Link with the controller is awesome.

I watched it live on IGN Insider, so I don't know if there's links yet.

I've been visiting Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/e3/index.html). They've got quite a bit of trailers and the like, too.

Also, apparently the GC's getting two more titles: Baten Kaitos 2 and another DK Bongo-related racing game.

Man, I really wish Nintendo could have upped this spec a bit. This was the video resolution on the first version of the gamecube right? Hopefully they'll atleast include real surround sound on the Wii.

That new controller could be the next-gen mouse+keyboard replacement if that press-conference is to be believed.
Red Steel, Zelda and Metroid definitely looked good enough.
And those golf- and tennis-games didn't look too bad either. Sure ... it's no billion polygon with bump-mapping and all those shaders (that do nothing but make enemies look like crappy toysoldiers), but they're good enough.

And the 20+ games that were already playable at the E3. That sure as hell is a good sign for the system at launch. Better than 360 and PS3 combined ...

It'd be a damned shame if all the consumers are going to let graphics and decide which console to buy this year. Altough with a bit of luck the 360 already has shown that graphics aren't everything.

Wii are going to do pretty well. ;)

(and please Epic ... bring UT2k7 to this console if you can ... )

Metroid 3 was running on Pro Logic II, I'm hoping that is just running on an early devkit, same as the Gamecube-era graphics.

Oh yeah, just looked at the Zelda's video, how awesome. They finaly heard the comunity and they are bringing back the good old Zelda a la n64. Camera sensor, awesome, Just the speakers in the controler is very nice, unless you use headphones it can become really useless. I am looking for the Wii, hell, i can't wait to see if they are going to make another 'Double o Seven' game, especialy now that EA don't own it anymore, **** yeah!

I'm excited. Very.

I like how in one of the articles, the Wii was criticized for not being as pretty as the other next-gen consoles. I wanted to slap the author.

Showing Zelda being played on the Wii brought tears to my eyes. I cant believe how good it looks and plays. Ill definetly be getting the Wii version for sure.

Seeing Yoshi's Island 2 was a very nice surprise and I have high hopes for it was well. So glad i bought a DS over a PSP.

EDIT: Just watched the Red Steel video. If Wii is only about 3 times more powerful than gamecube, why am I not convinced that this doesnt look next gen. Holy cow its gorgeous. Ok yeah i just saw the tennis match with Shigeru freaking Miyamoto and company, god im feeling like I want Wii more than ps3 now. This is so freaking cool

Maybe Wii can bring the family together for a gaming experience. Mario star jumping anyone?

No amount of smileys can express the amount of joy, awe, and just sheer bug-eyes I made when I watched that video. I'm alone in my room and I started clapping when the execs at Nintendo went up against Miyamoto and the grand-prize winner.

And it's going to be out this year.

And it's going to have a low price.

And Legend of Zelda will be out on launch day for Gamecube and Wii.

And the name starts to sound better now. If Wii was supposed to be a giant company prode shoved in my butt, the little show they put up acted as some very nice lubricant, consolation flowers, and a payed for prostitute to console my sore gamer behind.

...maybe that analogy doesn't work. But my GAWD, I've haven't been excited about video-games this much since the Nintendo 64. I think I might be even more excited then I was in the older days.

...I took a shot every time someone made a Wii pun....

You poor poor man. I'm shocked you haven't succumbed to alcohol poisoning yet.

Ladies and Gentleman, I present to you the most exciting news at this year's e3:

DUCK HUNT SEQUEL @ E3

(info here. (http://revolution.ign.com/articles/706/706955p1.html))

Sweet jesus has Nintendo topped themselves or what? I only wish I could get the above text to flash. Bold, the color red, and size 6 font just doesn't fully convey the immense fear this title will strike into the competition. Game over, man. Nintendo's won.

Oh yeah, and they're making this game called "Resident Evil" or something like that. Too bad no-one'll notice now that Wii's got its definitive killer app.

I think this is what Nintendo (and its resident fanbois) have been saying about their strategy. We all love graphics and whiz-bang effects and sound that shakes our molars loose and enemies that hide behind crates and exploding barrels, but a screenshot can be such an effective marketing tool that we tend to forget why we play games in the first place: they're freaking FUN.

I believe that part of the reason that I drank the Wii Kool-Aid this generation (there's one I don't think anyone's used yet) is that I love to play games. Not VIDEO games, but games of any sort: video games, board games, card games (both standard and collectible), backyard sports, I love to have fun and compete and just PLAY. And that's what I'm seeing with the Wii and its control scheme, a chance to sit down and play something that's FUN, in a way that's a little different than we've ever seen from a home console.

Nintendo has already achieved the impossible, they got my wife playing DS titles. So from first-hand experience, I'd say their strategy has a good chance to work.

Apparently, the Wii will cost $250 (http://www.4colorrebellion.com/archives/2006/05/09/egm-spillin-wii-beans-new-details/). Eh, the cost does indeed "feel appropriate."

Oh yeah, linked article has tons of hype-mongering over Zelda. Nice stuff, but again, how the hell do we care now that there's Duck Hunt?

That's still just a rumor, nothing has been confirmed. There have been some differing reports.

Bet on the Wii will selling for less than $200, says Scott Steinberg, vice president of marketing for Sega

Source: Forbes (http://www.forbes.com/home/digitalentertainment/2006/05/10/nintendo-e3-strategy-rr_cx_0510game.html)

If it is $200, then you could get a Wii and 8 games, (assuming $50/game) for the price of the 60gb model PS3.

On another note, has there been any info on DS -> Wii connectivity?

W0RF

None yet, but given the feeble support and lack of enthusiasm for last generation, I don't expect it to return, unless there's some kind of crossover, say for Animal Crossing or something.

It's a bit of a shame, really, 4 Swords Adventures was a lot of fun imo.

Square Enix is doing another Crystal Chronicles for the Wii, so there better darn well be DS-based multiplayer.

I hate making so many posts in the same friggen' thread, but this just deserves a mentio for those who aren't tracking the Wii:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl has been announced. New characters include Pit from Kid Icarus and... Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid.

And yes, he can use his cardboard box. I'm guessing it's a shield.

Duck Hunt, Star Fox, RE, Zelda, Mario. What more do you people want?!

DUCK HUNT PEOPLE!

You know when you drink lots of coffee and you get all jittery...I don't like coffee, but I sure feel that way after reading more about the Wii and see what's coming to to.

That animated gif of snake bursting out of his box doesn't do justice to his entrance in that Smash Bros video. Theres a whole bit with him chatting on the codec about entering Smash Brothers beforehand and then revealing him doing recon on his opponents from the box :D

God I love Nintendo.

The market for consoles is to measly here, I doubt the Wii would be crossing seas to hit the racks here. Moreover, I wouldnt make the same mistake again as in the case with my cube, I got my cube from abroad only to discover absolutely null availbaility of games here.
