Squaresoft held their pre-e3 conference thing, the highlight being not one upcoming game called "FFXIII", but three. Then there's stuff including pre-rendered cutscenes from upcoming Wii games and so forth. Summary here. (http://www.gamespot.com/e3/e3story.html?sid=6149412)
Discuss.
Edit: PS3's new controller: a strange, remote-ish looking device that captures motion. Gamers everywhere applaud Sony their excellence in innovation.
Also, launch costs are 500-600 USD, depending on if you want a 20 gig or the 60 model. Prices in europe are 499-599 euro.

Yeah I just watched it. I feel they kinda ripped off Nintendo's Wii controller, but who came up with the idea first. Sony delayed the system before Nintendo even announced the controller right??? Or is it the other way around.
The price didnt strike me as hard as it did some, but I am happy that they at least will include the damn hardrive. Wasnt a bad showing IMO and that connectivity with the psp and ps3 looks pretty neat.
EDIT: And wtf with the MGS4 trailer. Makes me want that game so badely now. I guess Kojima wasnt kidding when he said it was going to be the last game.

I guess the fact that it's also a blu-ray player makes the price a little bit easier to swallow, but still that's a lot of money... and I have to upgrade my PC as well, sigh.
Edit: Snake? Snaaaaaakeeee...!

Yeah, my thought was that there might have been some concurrent development. Still, it looks like Sony is taking the controller in another direction. They're treating it as well, a new controller with its own benefits (and it sounds like it won't be replacing the standard PS2 controller's features), while Nintendo's more or less going nuts and telling kids that their new device will change the way games are made. The controller in Sony's demonstration is really no more than a 3d joystick, which is fine, but Nintendo's doing tennis games and so forth.
So we'll see tomorrow to see what Nintendo's got. Either way, Nintendo could potentially just lost a significant advantage they were hoping for.
Anyways, to sum up the last part of the presentation:
"So, awesome controller, right? Check out those six degrees of motion. Alright, thanks Dylan, nowontothenextpointthePS3willcost$600okaynowseeyouallatE3nowgoodnight!" *flees*

I don't understand what the big deal is. The 360 cost just as much for the Premium package...and it doesn't include half the stuff the PS3 does.

The lack of an upgrade-path for the PS3 is rather worrying, as it 'forces' you to buy the expensive model if you want either of the 'extra' features (such as the ability to watch blue-ray movies at maximum resolution).
The new 360-owner can at least start 'cheap' and then buy his way into the premium-bliss as it were. He will have paid as much as the PS3-premium-package though, but he will be able to match it in capabilities (except for the blue-ray-reader).
(besides ... $10 cardreader = memory-stick reader for 360 ;))

No it doesn't, the 360 costs 399 for premium. The PS3 lite version with stripped down features is $499.
