Found it kinda edgy, very predicatble though. And I'm not one for scary films at all..... ET is far more frightening.
saw it with a group of 7 of my mates, one had seen it and spoiled the whole plot half way through......

Utter crap. Watch the director's cut of THe Exorcist if you want to be scared.

CapnBeeb is right that the Exorcist is far more scary, though The Ring is still a must-see movie, imo :)

I think the scary thing about The Ring is the intensity that is made through the entire movie, and not the single moments in it self. Compare it to DooM3, where there's a scary moment every second, which makes the game predictable - not scary. The Ring is predictable at some moments, but I didn't really expect a flickering television to push a woman into a well.
I haven't seen The Ring 2 just yet, but I hope I can watch it soon though :)

When i finally watched the excorsist i was disapointed, tbh. Just didn't really impress. Not sure if it was the directors cut though. Is the Directors Cut significantly better? and more scary/etc?
(the version i saw, the only jump was the bit in the attic, actually. A little girl who swears like a sailor makes a pretty poor satan, lord of all lies.)

I've heard from multiple people that it's crap, nowhere near as scary as the first one, and don't bother.

^Yea one reason I didnt go watch The Ring 2 is cause it got such horrible reviews.

I actually quite liked Ring 2...it wasn't a horror movie though, it was a supernatural thriller...which helped because I don't like horror.
The bit with the stags was amazingly odd though.

Not every goddamn person watches Japanese films Ana. Just becuase you are on the bandwaggon of "I watch, therefore I like Japanese films over the remakes that americans make." doesn't mean the rest of us are. So calm down :)

They are only utter crap if you have seen the Japanese version. So my point was, that not everyone watches the Japanese versions. American and Japanese versions of films will always be different. Japanese people take the supernatural more serious and they also develop characters, where as american movies just throw you in the middle of the movie, then it ends.

For anyone curious about Ring 2: Don't do it! Don't waste the 1 1/2hrs of your life it'll take to get to the end and say "wtf did I just watch that for?"
The story: The video tape has become a game among high schoolers, and somehow ends up in the little town that the woman and the boy move to to get away from everything that happened in the first movie. People die, and the little girl from the tape has decided that she wants the woman to be her Mommy and possesses the boy. The woman gets the girl out of the boy and gets pulled into the well in the TV, then manages to climb out of the well while the faster moving girl never quite manages to catch up to her. Then the woman caps the well, trapping the girl in it forever, and she and the boy live happily ever after. You're welcome.
