So, first this Associated Press story gets released, and replicated all around the world:
Issac Hayes Quits South Park
Yeah, I'm sad. I see the episode, and I laugh. Things are wonderful. I start browsing Wikipedia, reading the notes from the episode, when I run across this:
Chef's Quitting Controversy
Many people do not know that Isaac Hayes suffered a stroke January 17th '06. The article basically defends Isaac Hayes, stating that due to that stroke, there's no way he could have done this season anyway, and that's the probable reason why he couldn't do his voice. Instead, it says that his agent, Christina Kimball (a big Scientologist) said those things. There's even two interviews: one the reporter did himself shortly after the "traped in the Closet" episode aired (no source), and one that The A.V. Club did. That one is available.
Interview with Isaac Hayes, January 4th, 2006
That's all he talks about South Park in that Interview. It sure doesn't sound like a quitting material to me.
I had at one point found another article refuting the fox news article, but now I can't find it again.
This has been bugging the hell out of me. There's three possibilities in my mind.
1) Isaac Hayes actually quit the show. Whether stroke induced, or a personal preference, he's decided that he doesn't want to participate any more...even though, as the fox news artilcle said, he needs the income.
2) Isaac Hayes' publicist decided to quit for him, and Isaac Hayes can't do/say anything about it, either because of his stroke or pressure from the Church of Scientology.
3) It's actually a publicity stunt. Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Isaac hayes all got together, and realized due to Isaac's condition he wouldn't be in shape to do the season. So, they orchestrate these events to boost ratings for the first season. According to the Associated Press, The Episode premired at it's highest ratings since 2002.
Well, now I've told someone. Maybe I can not worry about it for a while.

from the article said:Isaac Hayes did not quit "South Park." My sources say that someone quit it for him.

AVC: Do you ever challenge Trey Parker and Matt Stone on what they're trying to say with South Park?
IH: Well, when I did "Chocolate Salty Balls," I asked them, "Are you sure you want to do this stuff, man?" But then I looked into the studio and saw the whole crew in there cracking up. I said, "****, they might have something." So I went on and did it, and I'm glad I did, because it was such a huge hit. In fact, when it was out in England during the Christmas holidays, I aced… who were those girls who were so hot then?
AVC: The Spice Girls?
IH: Exactly. I aced them for the number-one spot. [Laughs.]
AVC: There's some pretty harsh satire on South Park. They don't really care who they offend.
IH: But that's their thing! They're success was built on that cutting-edge stuff. I've had to defend them a lot of times. One time on BET Tonight I defended them because Tavis Smiley, the host on that show, was coming at me. It was a call-in show, too, so people were calling in. I told them not to take this stuff seriously. If you do, you'll get in trouble. Just enjoy it. Remember your high-school yearbook? You look at those pictures now, you laugh, right? That's what South Park is. You got to laugh at it. Because we cursed, but we just didn't dare let the principals, the teachers, or the preachers hear it. And we didn't turn out bad, okay? Just look at it that way. Also, usually there's some kind of moral message at the end for the kids, by the Chef.
AVC: They did just do an episode that made fun of your religion, Scientology. Did that bother you?
IH: Well, I talked to Matt and Trey about that. They didn't let me know until it was done. I said, "Guys, you have it all wrong. We're not like that. I know that's your thing, but get your information correct, because somebody might believe that ****, you know?" But I understand what they're doing. I told them to take a couple of Scientology courses, and understand what we do. [Laughs.]
