It was pretty fun, but I've once again got to stress the importance of teams. A lot of those matches that I was part of for the last half of the night had me against T2A and -36 (and occasionally M&Ms) nine times out of 10, and Red won two of eight in that stretch, I think.

Also, please don't pull that crap on Torlan again. Either play and stick with it, or leave before the match starts. Switching to "end it faster" is exactly what I'm talking about when I mention bad attitudes. You're not forced to play maps you don't like, or even maps you DO like against people you DON'T like. Don't do it again.

hal
18th Feb 2006, 03:57 PM
On the other hand, I heard complaining from someone about teams when we only lost the Assault game by like 1:40. So, perhaps calling "teams" every game causes people to not take it seriously.

We have over a minute of warmup time before the game starts... surely we can decide on teams before that and then just play the match. I think it goes without saying too, that anyone should be expected to switch if asked.

I wish there were a way to disable team preference. :rolleyes:

CyMek

I wish there were a way to disable team preference. :rolleyes:

There must be. I was on a demo server the other day, and the teams were random every game. My team colour is set to red, but in 8 games I was on blue about 6 and red twice I think. I really think that is the root of the problem though. The teams are often so set that we may as well give each team colour an official team name.

The other problem is that, even in warmup, there are still a lot of people who will flat out refuse to switch teams to help balance them. I saw a lot of it happen last night. I try to be good about this, but last night I got switched enough times on one map I jsut said screw it, and didn't switch later.

nuttella
18th Feb 2006, 04:18 PM
If I'm on blue in Torlan, it's break time! Seriously, I don't know why that map ever gets voted. Good games were so rare that people stopped bothering to try, and now there are never good games. People often don't pay attention during the vote, and that's their problem, but it's no excuse to vote something you know most people don't want to play.

The way to disable team preference is for people not to set it! That would help a lot, I think.

Prey? I guess that's exactly what I'm going to be since I'm completely stuck. F**king vehakals. :mad:

T2A`

-36 and I are the new FragBU ONS pros. :-)

DP calls teams every f**king game. Well, every game he loses, anyhow. No one takes him seriously. And then he votes for Torlan rather than Torlan-32p so he can whore tank and get some points. He calls teams even when his team has more players just because his team is losing. Perhaps what he should be calling is "teamwork" rather than "teams."

Example. On DuelingKeeps last night I made a few caps, which made the red team strengthen their defense to 4+ players. After many failed attempts at even getting close to the flag after that I resorted to killing people in the middle of the map while occasionally peeking in the flag room to see what was going on in there. Rather than actually play CTF and go on the offensive since blue was being so defensive, red, DP in particular, continued to play defensive as well, and whine about teams. Red scored when, God forbid, JD joined and went on the offensive. Here's a general tip. If the enemy team is being really defensive, you don't need tons of people are guarding your flag. Instead, try and coordinate a Zerg rush to their flag. Don't sit there and call teams and then say "I don't do offense." For someone who's supposed to be Very, Very good, you sure do bitch like you suck ass, DP.

If I could find where team preference is stored I could probably write a mutator that reset it none before every game... That probably won't help though because whoever loads first will go on red. At least that's what I vaguely remember happening because UT2004 is so well-coded.

Nuttella has the general idea. I'm just not gonna play Torlan anymore. Have fun with your 2v3 games.

Class MutNoPreferredTeam extends Mutator;

function ModifyLogin(out string Portal, out string Options)

local int iTempInt, iTempInt2;
local string sTempStr;

// Remove the preferred team
iTempInt = InStr(Caps(Options), "?TEAM=");

iTempInt2 = InStr(sTempStr, "?");

if (iTempInt2 != -1)

else
sTempStr = Left(Options, iTempInt);

http://www.utzone.de/include.php?path=content/overview2.php&type=4&contentid=4828

It has a team balancer that can be set to even the numbers on either team or you can set it to add joining players to the losing team regardless of numbers, etc :)

It's been a while since I used it but it should be worth checking out. As of today I also set my prefs to no team preference even though I get quite confused on blue :lol:

Long post with more personal attacks than actual content Most people don't play Torlan-32p for two reasons.

1) We usually don't have remotely close to enough people to justifyably play it - even if the server's full, it's less than half of the "Official" playercount, and

2) It just plain sucks.

DuelingKeeps, it's kind of hard to get close to your flag when we've got people constantly killing anyone who even TRIES to get into the base. Sure, that's to be expected, but it's like running into a brick wall when certain people are doing it. If Red can't get near the flag at all, much less in the base, that's a bit of a sign that Blue's a little overpowered.

As for me, I always play Defense, so don't be bringing it up like I'm doing anything.

Also, as I look in while making this post, shortly before joining, It was seven players on Red versus Five on blue, in TDM. Blue still won, by ten points, which in and of itself, indicates a pretty close game. However, the top two players on Blue (-36 and T2A) scored a combined 131 points, versus the top two players on Red scoring a combined 91. That's a significant difference of almost half. This is the sort of stuff I am talking about. The fact that even with a two man advantage, Red still can't win (though, admittingly, did come quite close), shows that team skill isn't balanced.

I'm definitely advocating a team balancer mutator, because some people won't switch by choice, and because Blue's been stacked for months lately. When you face off against a team of M&Ms, T2A, and -36... there just isn't much you can do, really, except try to hold them off as long as possible. That doesn't make for a very fun game. Now, to his credit, M&Ms will switch up, but I rarely see T2A or -36 doing it, unless it's cases like last night in Torlan - which wasn't fair to their team after they switched "to end it", because then their former team were several players down, ruining the game for them.

Have a little more thought for other players' enjoyment, rather than just your own, please. FragBU is about the enjoyment of the game for all on the server, and doing things like that just because you don't like the map or whatever is pretty selfish.

PureOwnage

hal
19th Feb 2006, 03:03 AM
Dunno, guys... my experience with team balancing mutators wasn't so great. The problem is that it keeps you from swapping players if the numbers are even. Though I'd be willing to try just about anything if it could randomize the teams some.

As for me, I always play Defense, so don't be bringing it up like I'm doing anything.

I love playing defense too, but I've started going offense when I can... simply because it's needed. If your team is down in CTF, there's not much point in the entire team sitting in its own flag room. Get up to the base, wait for a few people, and enter in numbers.

Oh yeah, ggs. :tup: Cymek hiding in Heights, to deny blue the big shut-out win was awesome. :D

We had a great back and forth game in Torlan-32p last night. It's not my favorite map, and it has framerate problems in some areas for me which Torlan doesn't (I don't know what's up with that.) But it's better than Torlan for FragBU. It can't get much worse.

Heights with m&ms is always...interesting. Or not. But we did have the greatest JB game ever on that map. It went into overtime at 4-4 and didn't end for nearly an hour! It was amazing. Heights is also hitchy for me, so I don't especially like it, but with balanced teams you can have a good game.

My experience with team balance muts is that they don't really work, and if the team numbers are even, you can't switch without reconnecting. I'd rather we just work it out like the mature adults we're not.

*sigh* As for me, I missed the event :(

Friday I suffered from a 'nap attack'...dunno why, except that I had been up for 18 hours.
Saturday, my roomate's computer (the server around here) crashed 3 times in a row. That seriously screwed up my mood to play.

Linten your Irish accent rocks :lol: *Brad Pitt in Snatch* lmao

You'd have had to actually hear the Danes in TS though as a second hand recount of it will never do it justice lol ;)

[EDIT] Hope Hyru got most of it recorded though it'll be hard to translate.........

Did you end up recording the chatter? I remember Skold/CyMek saying record it and I'm sure someone did :confused: :)

Introductery speech? Que? Did I even do such one?

The real fun began rather late. I quitted at 6AM or so GMT+1 and it was some time before that. 4-5AM GMT+1 I suppose.

Yes we were drunk and had alot of fun :)

Yeah I remember someone acknowledging a record sometime? Who was that?

i am really beginning to like romra...even tho i get pwned by the hitscan folks, raffi, m's, jd, etc. i enjoy it b/c i don't really have to think about where the flag runner went, it's a great place for me to practice w/ my translocator b/c i still suck w/ that thing and i ususally do better than on the other CTF maps

Missed most (all?) of FragBU due to the fact that I went to a friend's house on Friday with a few other people and we played stuff like Q3, CoD2, UT2004, and *gasp* CS:S. Stayed up all night too. Thus I slept through all of Saturday's FragBU.

>Didn't really stick around too much for any game in FragBU, couldn't get in the fragging mood at all until the 2 Goliath games on Sunday but had to leave the highspeed internet after that(something about my parents not seeing me for enough time over the weekend) During the Sunday games i noticed dc is back, YAY dc is back, oh wait a sec, OH SH-*Defeat's cranium has been fried by dc's Lightning Gun*

What if TS suddenly disappeared? Would people stop coming to FragBU? I wouldn't and it's kind of sad to hear this might be the case. http://www.pdxclan.com/modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_cry.gif I've joined TS about twice and haven't experienced anything to draw me into it regularly yet.

You have to join at the right times. There's usually times where ts is mostly dead but then there's the DP hour where he says something then gets ragged on about it for the rest of the night. Then we all have a great time at his expence. :D

I would still play without it. FragBU was originally born without TS and was very successful.

My appearance on TS is at random. If it's good, fun conversation, I'm in. If it's a few guys who talk non-stop just to hear themselves speak, if it's more garbbled noise than conversation, or if it's someone's never ending crying/complaining, then I'm out.

CyMek
23rd Feb 2006, 05:42 PM
I'd come without TS, but I'd not stay for very long. TS is most of the fun, at least later. The early games with all the guys on the eastern side of the pond are always fun though. :)

i can't remeber the last time i played UT (FragBU or not) without being on voice. It's become part of the game for me. Also, it's always hilarious. :)
