After the arcade nonsense of the PS2 and Xbox versions, I wasn't exactly looking forward to the PC version. However, it seems that it won't be quite as crap as first thought, judging by the latest videos and screenshots.

Gameplay impressions here and here there's also new screenshots at both links (new videos only at GS)

Pros;

* The iron sights, whilst 2D appear to be very well done; the rear sight is transparent, and the sights actually misalign when you slowly walk. It looks like America's Army; slow walk with iron sights raised is possible, but any faster and you can't use them.

* The art design appears better than the bad B-grade counter terrorist "commando" of the console versions.

* Graphically it looks fairly good. Character models have their finger off the trigger when not shooting; I've only seen this in SWAT 3.

Cons;

* Only one team can be commanded and planning has been abolished. I'm not so bothered by this as SWAT 3 had the same thing but was excellent IMO. The team-mate AI looks a bit rough around the edges.

* Damage system is more arcadish; no more dying from one shot.

* Horrible voice acting and dialogue from the videos I've seen.

* According to people playing it, it's more linear than previous games.

Unknown;

* Modding? I don't know if a level editor and/or an SDK will be released, but even if they are and they're not cumbersome to use, Ubi isn't known for their modding support, especially with Raven Shield.

I do like the fact that they've finnally learned that the general public is into the whole iron sights thing... but i was never a big fan of the game's arcade-ish gameplay. I remember playing one of the early versions of RS's multiplayer demo's back when i had 56k. I was very much able to hold my own, because the game favored a slower more realistic pace of gameplay IMHO.

Then they changed it to be more favorable to the Counter Strike kids, and i lost intrest in MP. i bought the game for the SP and what i hoped would be a good modding community, only to find out that "Mods" was ubispeak for mapping. lol

I'd consider getting this new addition to the franchise only after i read reviews about it being realistic, and tactical (aka slower paced) but if they're removing the planning stage something tells me they're not intrested in the gamers that wear thinking caps.

Just gave the demo a whirl. I seriously doubt that Tom Clancy even knows that they're making games off a book he wrote anymore, let alone take a look at them in QA (as he did for the first 2 in the series afaik).. From the looks of it Shigeru Miyamotois handleing the tech advice aspect of this game.

Argh....

I practically thought they'd have a nerf gun in the weapon selection. The weapon moding aspect could of easily been "don't forget to take your pow-pow-power UP and evolve your MP-5chu into a M-P5SDzard. But don't forget you can only have one of the evolution stones inbewed upon your gun so choose wisely..

If Tom Clancy had any integrity about the franchise, he'd walk into whoever's office was responsible for this product, take a crap on his desk, and put the game next to it, and ask him what the difference between the two items was.

It's good if you like Rainbow Six Lite :) Great graphics, and HDR effects. But from the demo and from the interview with the director, it seems they are trying to bring the R6 series to a larger audience by making it more arcade action shooter-like and less squad-based tactical shooter. The squad AI is pretty nifty since you tell them to go somewhere and they will go there and cover the area themselves, peeking around corners and such. It kinda feels like the game was designed for the Xbox 360 instead of a PC. Very simple gameplay :p

For the INF2.9 fans, I think RS:Lockdown is a "no thank you" like Crac put it. For the INF2.86 fans and other arcade shooter people, I think they might like it.

Yes, we shall take a look at mods there.

To me R6 is tactical co-op fun, this game is no longer R6, but some action ramboing. It is not that bad at all, it is just simply not R6, hence no reason for me to play it.

HEy guys been a while!

MY brother's friend is one of the level designers for this game (Ubi soft has one of it's development centers in MTL). I tried to pump him for information but he wouldn't budge!! I'll see if I can get my brother to confirm some stuff about the irnosgihts and what not.
