Best of SkinCity Community SkinPack [Archive]

I just had a small idea: How about releasing a "Best of" Skinpack of our SkinCity Community?

There are map compilations, mod compilations, voicepack compilations but I don`t know any great skin compilations (Community Bonus packs and Skinpacks by certains authors excluded ;))

I think this would be great and would make things easier for ppl (re)installing UT2k4 (I`m not talking about the "Hi, I`m searching for warez or keygens to install my `borrowed` copy of UT2k4 and also want to ask for great mods/skins/tools"-guys......) having all great skins with a few mousecklicks.

Maybe this pack should be in the "Essential Files" section too.

What do you think? Is this a good or useless idea?

But there is a lot of great work ( Rex, Slaughter, Klasnic, Hide,...)

Yap, definitaly nothing for 56k users ;) maybe it should be splitted in 2 parts?

Yes, or maybe 1 big pack and several packs (per model, for example).

Even if I think the easier solution is one BIG pack :p

Getting all great skins with one simple mouseclick would be cool :p but ok that would definitaly be a few hundretts of MB

maybe a Best of Skinpack and a Best of Modelpack?

Mhhh , not a bad idea. But seriously i hate comunity packs, they are just a huge file to download and there's too much skins you might probably not like/ or want to keep it on your HD. Mainly also, just want to not have a 40 GB UT2004 Folder if you get me right.

So yeah.... Vote = :con:

That`s one of the probs of the CPs that`s right.

In my case I don`t mind big files, I`ve got a good connection @ work and 2 very big HDs @ home :D

Good idea MäxX , but the limit for me to upload will be something like 100 MB with my I-Net Connection (~ 5-6 hours). Everything else will be nearly impossible .:(

Maax, I think the best way is to take only the ultimate work of each good skinner.
But I know it's pretty difficult to choose sometime. :B

What if all the "best of" Skins included are retained within their own individual .zip files within the large .zip file? Also maybe with an HTML guide that'll help users decide which they'd want to install and which not to?

I can see how this pack would end up being huge...
Yes, create an intelligent system of download or install is finally the best solution.
Users have too many different tastes. :)
It's not like a maps pack.

SaD, another idea : you could create an archive or a page of all the "skins of the moment" (Sorry, if somebody already suggest this idea:mwink:)

Thought 1:
The program's database has a table (call it available packs or something) which should be kept fairly large to keep it neat. This table would have the link to d/l the pack, some info on the pack (maybe some screeenshots). Once you d/l the pack it is added to another table in the database (downloads or packs u have whatever...) and gives you the option to install / uninstall the entire pack. As new packs were created (unless people stop making good skins :D ) the available packs table could be updated to include these new packs (so you wouldn't have to d/l the entire program again)

Yap, this is one of the planned things. Hopefully I`ll find more good jugs and egypts that I can finish it ASAP and take care of that part

It´s on the "to do"-list already.I have no idea , when my coder gets some free time to code it .

A HTML-Guide with pics , so everyone can decide what to download.
Or like MäxX ADSU-Program.This way nobody is forced to download skins he don´t want .

The idea of such a pack is great, but I doubt that this could be handled well

Include the links in ADSU and it should be fine.

but still voted a :D:tup: because the idea is nice ;)
