View Full Version : How about a detail texture source here?

What would you guys think about making a thread here where we all posted the detail textures we have/uses?

I myself have one I use in particular and some more I could easily do over, due to blurriness and unsharpness.

This could be an easy way to give newcomers as veterans a possibility to create some nice skins.

Any for/against this idea?

Nice one Turret 49, just opened it :)
What I use is though real images of real metallic objects(see the effect on my skins: Mithan, Alexia, Bane, Monath and Theory)

Well then I'd have to go and make one then? :)
Will as soon as I have redone some of them this week and uploaded them somewhere.

I don't see why it wouldn't be a good idea. I've not been using them quite a lot recently though.

I like Shaders and opacity mask/tricks better

Combined they are the goddess of details, or something hehe ;) :)

EDIT:: I'm going to post it in the Tutorial section. If it's not the right place well it's no problem moving it :p

too bad the magnification of detail texture scale sucks in ut2k4, was much better in ut and unreal.

I've never compared that. Though I'm quite happy with what we got.

Else you could try the Eye Candy modification for UT2k4 that enables extra high details.

I'm pretty against detail textures for modellers/skinners as it's just another reason to do lazy skinning - I've already said detail should be in skins themselves.

Then again anything that helps the community in some way has to be a good thing. Plus it would be a handy resource for mappers so I give it a :hmm: :tdown: and :tup:
