I'm having a hard time trying to find a particular type of beer I had during my trip to Holland. I just need the name of it. I had it at a restaurant in a small town called Son (actually it may have been Veghel, I don't remember) just north of Eindhoven. It was very dark and heavy, much like Guinness, but not as strong tasting. The restaurant owner said it was only available like 2 weeks (maybe 2 months) out of the year, and he acted very proud to be serving it to us.
Damn, that was a great beer. Any ideas? :(

Might be Grolsch Herfst Bok:

That's one of the beers I know that isn't available throughout the year. Then again I don't know much about beer, I don't drink. (ask 3s he likes beer)

Son is north of Eindhoven. It may even become a part of Eindhoven one day.

There's also Sylvester from Brand and I think Heineken has a variant for this season as well.
Of course it could have been a beer from Belgium as well ;)

So it was probably a stout or a porter. Did it have a strong yeast or bock flavor?

It probably was a HerfstBok, thing is there are tons of brands delivering those nowadays.
Grolsch, Amstel, Bavaria, I think even Heineken has one. Plus a lot of small local brewers make it.
Big chance it was Grolsch though

If I remember correctly, I think the guy said it was some type of smaller local brewery. :/

The 'small' local brewery in the neighbourhoud could be Bavaria as it is located in Lieshout (+/- 12 Km east of Son).
