Gotta love the ATI page :)

This version comes without Control Panel. For those that don't want to use the Control Center(which requirers .NET Framework to be installed), just download the driverfiles and use ATI Tray Tools to make settings.

Where's the benchmarking utility in UT2004? This is almost too good to be true. Also, where's the non-Catalyst Control Center version of that download? I hate the Catalyst install that puts everything in the one control panel thing like nVidia. I'd rather have all the tabs under advanced display properties...

I'm pretty sure Control Panel (non-CCC) is a thing of the past. I read that ATi would discontinue it, I just wasn't sure when (apparently it's now).

Pisses me off too 'cuz I don't want that **** .NET garbage on my computer. Oh well.

God dammit. I f**king HATE the Control Center. I HATE having all those extra programs running the in background, I HATE how those programs are required to be running to change any settings, I HATE how the Control Center is so user friendly it's impossible for normal computer users to find anything, and I HATE how it adds itself to the right-click menu in Windows Explorer. F**KING QUEER, ATI. F**k you guys. My next card is nVidia. And every card after that.

::Editito::

I used some bastardized benchmarking thing for UT2004 where I have to pilot the camera around myself to try and check the difference between the two driver sets. I used Torlan and tried to fly around that in the same pattern for each of three tries and then see what they averaged out to.

5.11 Catalyst
ons-torlan
86.771927 / 156.055649 / 253.916534 fps
Score = 156.256622

ons-torlan
107.111900 / 159.386887 / 225.481857 fps
Score = 159.601379

ons-torlan
103.475281 / 161.192245 / 235.007462 fps
Score = 161.426529

5.12 Catalyst
ons-torlan
110.311218 / 149.590790 / 246.260971 fps
Score = 149.801758

ons-torlan
108.521065 / 148.647018 / 205.570709 fps
Score = 148.846954

ons-torlan
96.257141 / 150.622284 / 203.930908 fps
Score = 150.826523

Assuming this is low, average, and high framerates, it looks like I'm going back to 5.11 and the beloved Control Panel. \o/

Oh, and yes, I have a P4 with hyperthreading, in case anyone was wondering.

*eh* you are aware that the 'control-centre' has an 'expert-mode' ?
There's even a 'custom view'-option that allows you to enable/disable those items you don't like/want/use.

It's a shame the normal version has been discontinued as of Catalyst v5.11, because I didn't like the .net-version either.

I don't want to use the .NET stuff either. For the 5.11 drivers I'm using a control panel version and I found this 5.12 version for a different card but it has the same update readme doc as the radeon driver which leads me to believe it will work. If not then the 5.11 is it unless a different version is released later. If ATI insists on.NET then Nvidia cards will be my choice. I'll post later after I try this driver.

Well everything installed fine and no errors or conlicts and all the proper info shows up in the control panel. I played a few rounds (quick ones) of COD:UO and my frames were fine and no glitches. The release notes say the radeons are supported in this driver along with all their other cards. I'm thinking that ATI is pushing Control Center on the Radeon users while the Control Panel version of the driver is available to the other cards.

Check that. Somewhere in there it tells you how to:

get rid of that annoying ass Catalyst Control Center option in teh right-click menu (god that was the first thign to go)

how to easily get rid of all the sloppy .NET framework and runtimes for all but when you absolutely need to change your settings

so yeah you still need to start the runtime, change your settings, then shut it down. But I've gotten used to it. If you switch it a lot you should just save some profiles and swap them asap.

And yeah, control center has an expert mode or whatever. I dunno, I just call it "not the stupid mode"

Edit: God teh alkohole maeks it teh hurd to do teh spiel.

I'm downloading the Omega drivers. Hopefully they work in a Control Panel-like manner. I can't take the Control Center. It's killing my brain.

...edit...

W00T! The Omega drivers are suite. No more CCC. The combination of Omega drivers and ATI Tray Tools is hard to beat. Gets the job done soooo much better than what ATI has some up with.
