I work at Best Buy, and XBox 360 stuff went on sale today. We've had a demo set up in the back, and it just went out today. So what do I think?
Well, the demo disc had quite a few games on it (including the new Perfect Dark) and I haven't had a chance to go over all of them yet. But the overwhelming impression I get when I play these games is: "If you liked Xbox, you'll like Xbox 360." I know it sounds stupid, but there's no other way to describe it.
It's the same old stuff the last Xbox stuff had, only better. No revamps, no new creativity, just the same gameplay every other Xbox title has had only better looking and faster.
That isn't to say it's not a ton of fun to play. I mean, particularly in the new Madden game (2k6), the graphics are tremendous, and definately add to the experience as a whole. In Perfect Dark, everything is crisp and clear, and there is virtually no sign of slowdown or loadtimes (except while booting). Huge enviroments are displayed at whim, and the volumetric fog looks better than ever.
Pretty cool stuff, and a mighty beast in the graphical department indeed. But I still dont think this will be enough to sway me from buying a new laptop this season instead of a console.
