View Full Version : What anime should i watch next?

K

I just finished watching Berserk.
To my great dissapointment the ending was not what i expected. They totaly left it unfinished. I guess it got canceled or something after the first season. The story was so awsome, then all the crazy other world stuff happens and you are left with a gapeing jaw mumbleing WTF?

Any way , I was thinking about starting on Samurai Champloo. Has any one seen it yet? I like the more serious and bloody ones like Berserk and NinjaScroll the best. But I also liked Bebop. This one looks alot like it.

Any other suggestions on what to watch.

*any dibs on how many days it takes Phatcat to see this thread?:D

Yeah I loved Berserk but damn did that ending just leave me in a "WTF" mood. Sorry I cant recommend any anime since I dont really watch that much. I do own 2 Lupin the 3rd movies though :D

EDIT: Actually i can recommend. Its the Goldenboy series. Only 6 episodes but damn did i ever laugh my ass off. Maybe i have really wierd humor, but kid you not i still laugh myself to tears. There was also this one movie that was shown on the sci-fi channel on Saturday mornings, cant recall the name, but it features an alien who was nearly industructable and his head has a small face in the middle but jutted out like a snake. Wasnt a bad show IMO.

You weren't expecting a bat**** crazy and/or disappointing ending to an anime series? Are you MAD? ;)

Samurai Champloo is absolutely excellent and I thoroughly recommend it. It is very very similar to Bebop, not stylistically, but certainly in the way it plays out (three contrasting main characters, a different situation every episode,) so yeah, see that. :)

Best anime series I've ever seen is Hunter X Hunter. It's around 90 episodes, including the 3 OVA's.
Hunter X Hunter is a must-see for all anime lovers. :)

Also Rurouni Kenshin, great series. And Hellsing, of course.

First of all you guys need to
OMG!!CALM DOWN!!!LOL
It will be ok . I promise!

ok
Rurouni Kenshin Is F***ing bad ass. Specialy the three OVA's "Samurai X". The Serious subjects and very bloody action! Thats what i am talking about!!! I watched the first episode of Samurai Champloo today. Its on the goofy side just like Bebop was. I dont care for the lame hip hop music in the anime but its tolerable. It looks like it will be a good one.

Someone explained the plot of Full Metal to me once and i wasn't to interested. I dont realy like storys about kids either. I prefer adult subjects and realy Bloody battles, But i will still check it out and give it a chance.

What are dokuro-chan , Hunter X Hunter, and Get Backers about? I have heard GB was a good one.

Overall, Hunter X Hunter is a show to rival to the hugely popular show Naruto in my opinion, but simply not discovered by many. Many action/adventure animes out there can’t compare to the quality of story and characters of Hunter X Hunter. More of a recent vintage, it deserves more attention from the anime community because it is truly one of those rare shows that are non-repetetive and original. So please, give it some love.

Internal codecs is, in actuality, a flawed design. It makes things unextensible - and VLC has a plethora of annoying codec bugs in it.

Seriously, mplayer is the best player out there. Its video filters can be used to make the nicest looking anime you've ever seen, although those filters can be quite cpu-heavy....

Although somehow it seems to run 3 or 4 times faster on linux than on windows.....

While it appears like an anime, and features pretty much what you'd expect, it was developed for MTV by an american (okay, korean american, but that doesn't matter, right?), so I guess it ain't technically "japanimation." Either way, it's quite a homoerotic show. Yes, it features a half-naked, near-mute female assassin with a foot fetish (who dies a lot), but yeah, the men aren't any more dressed, generally speaking. Or is it just me that does aeon (and everyone else, male or female) look... effiminately manly?

To prove my point, at one point a senator (or something similar) strips naked on public TV to prove he's not "hiding anything." Ahh, political commentary, how I love and loathe you for strategically placing a dude's head to cover his unmentionables. Anyways, don't think the show as a "hur hur naked girls" show.

And if you enjoyed Aeon Flux, be sure to check out Reign: The Conqueror, for all your bisexual men wearing armor that proudly displays their nipples needs!

Made by the same animation group if I recall. Does the Boondocks count as anime? It's certainly drawn manga style, but it's definitely an American cartoon. Funny as hell.

Samurai 7 is "mostly awesome". It's basically an anime version of Akira Kurosawa's Shichinin no Samurai (Seven Samurai in English). Of course, it adds some "Imperial entanglements", shall we say. :)

It's pretty good, and steals a lot of scenes from the movie. Of course, it does stuff like turning the bandits into robot bandits, but that's to be expected in anime.

I just borrowed this OVA from a friend...Phatcat is so right here that this thread deserves a bump. A review, (http://www.themanime.org/viewreview.php?id=325) and its site on Amazon (don't look at the plot synopsis, it has potential spoilers...the reviews are mostly spoiler free). (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000063K2C/103-9528935-8111808?v=glance&n=130) If you do watch it, don't be fooled by the first episode...this anime disturbingly powerful. Not for the faint-of-heart.

For my recommendation...I liked Planet ES (http://www.themanime.org/viewreview.php?id=713). It doesn't take itself too seriously at first, but it gets deeper.
