what you guys think i should get first... cpu or vid card? i got a banshee running with a celeron400 on a bh6 with 128mb of ram... i think im gonna upgrade both but don't know which one to go for first...
in other words.. which would boost my frames the most or make my gameplay smoother? i always thought it would be the vid card but people have been telling me a cpu upgrade would be better... any recommendations?

Hey Cobra!! wuzup? nice 1 on 1 the other night!!
Anyways, that's a tough one, I'm not sure which I would upgrade in your situation, but, since it would probably come down to money, I'm thinking a vid card would be cheaper.
Til next time...

go for vid card first, they tend to go out of style slower

You're probably pushing that Banshee as hard as it will go right now.. get V3 3000 AGP for $90 or so and you'll be right as rain.
If you wanna spend $200+ get a GeForce DDR.

hmm.... i was thinking of getting the v3 but isn't v4/5 right around the corner? no way i can afford the 6000 but heard the v4 was targeting the budget consumer (which would be me)...
anyway i guess ill go with the one of those for now with a celeron 600 or something in couple months...

I still have a problem with dropping $300+ on a video card. I never play consoles, but damn, a PS2/DC probably cost less than one freaking component... not worth it. CPU - I can understand, and yeah, some of you will say.. it does just as much. Yeah, I know - it's just not that easy to justify.

The V5-5500 will be out this weekend. If the $300 doesn't bother you, get that card. But your CPU will then be the bottleneck. If you want to spend less, then the V3-3000 is your best choice.
I'd recommend a Celeron2 566mhz for your next cpu. You should be able to overclock it to 850mhz, pretty easily. (Or, a 533a should overclock to 800mhz easily.)

Tough one because both are just about equally important. If you're using a Celeron *400* then I assume it's at the default speed, (not overclocked), because I can't think of a reasonable OC that would be stable. This means your bus is running at the default of 66Mhz. 100Mhz bus speed makes a significant difference; a 300a @450 would blow a 500 Cel running @ 500 out of the water because of the bus speed issue.
On the video card, I would imagine your Banshee is cranking out every last bit of performance it can to keep up with UT. With a current card you can get a real performance boost AND better visuals...
Good luck, either way you can only gain!

Get a video card first, the new crop is just coming out, and it'll be a while before they relaese any new ones. Processors on the other hand are constantly going up in speed, and the older ones are going down in price. You can get the top Celeron out now in a few weeks or a couple months for quite a bit less.
