I know, this may seem like heresy to some of you. Why would anyone take the main weakness of the pc and bring it to mac ? Fact is, a got hold of a g4 (it's not much but it can be used as a secondary comp) and i would like to use it. Unfortunately, i know nothing of the mac world, nobody i know owns a mac, and i don't even have a way to get Mac OSX without paying it (which is not an option). On the other hand, i do have have Win98, millenium, and XP, and tons of softwares for windows.
I heard recently that a modified version of mac OSX that can be installed on pc's was available on P2P, and i'd like to know if you guys heard of something similar for windows.

The current macs run on a different architecture than the PC (understand, macs are not intel ix86 compatible computers). Thus, you cannot run any OS compile for the x86 on non-x86 macs.

Windows is, as far as i know, built only for x86-32 bit and 64 bit architectures. So the initial answer is no. You may try to run windows in a x86 emulator, such as VirtualPC. But don't expect too much of it... still it works fine.

As for the OS X compatible for x86... well... the next generation of CPU for Mac will be on the intel x86 architecture, thus OS X is already being developed for it and may have leaked. Actually the whole OS X project was compatible with the x86 from day one, so that wouldn't be a surprise. It might also be possible that some freaks modified the current OS X to make it x86 compatible, but I doupt that a little.

But in the end, what you should really consider doing is leave OS X on the mac, get use to it (which should take about 5 to 10 serious minutes of concentration). After that, chances are you'll never come back to windows. Make sure you have OS 10.4 (Tiger) installed for full enjoyment.

There is a version of Windows NT compiled for the PPC architecture. It was released back in 1995 or something like that.

Good luck finding it though.

Basically, you need OSX or Yellow Dog Linux, if you expect to use that computer.

Downloading either one shouldn't be a problem.

Geo, i'm pretty sure of that OSX for pc thing. I haven't seen it myself but i heard the news on the radio and that it was a pretty huge breakthrough. Now that i think about it i even recall the name of the os was OSX86 or something.
Anyway thanks for the help guys.
