Honestly, I don't play online. I just plain prefer being able to jump in and play without having to worry about coordinating teamwork and whatnot.. My schedule is way too crazy for me to really have much fun playing online.

What are your favorite botplay maps? How do you deal with dumb bots (IE: parking their butt right in your line of sight)?

That brings me to another point.. It'd be great if there was a mutator that gave us a way to tell the bots to move their butts out of my face. It happens way too often, and I find myself getting so frustrated I TK my entire team.

Haven't played much INF in a long while, it has been fun getting back into it again.

Favorite botmaps:
Either of the ManorFarm's, DM-Enemy at the Games, and CTF-Fin. That is all.

To deal with dumb bots, shoot them. To actually move them, move to where you
want them to go and order that bot to hold yor position. He will run to you and stay there.

To answer your other question, find Olethros' Bot Director Mutator. Read the manual and run it :)

Olethros' Bot Director is very good. You can organize the bots into fireteams and have them move to whereever you point with the push of a button. Without this mutator, most of my staged entry screen shots I posted a while back would have been impossible.

Here's a couple pics of my bots in action using the Bot Director mutie:

When I play with bots, its deathmatch (using deathmatch converter for random spawns) only. 5-8 Bots on Colonel or General several respawns and short maptime.

Maps like Atoll, Arsenal, Cubadawn, MWH, Peru etc. make up for quick and entertaining game with no downtime at all and exercise aim and reflexes ;)

I like Norwhich because it allows medium range shots at bots. I use it to try out new weapon loadouts, if it wouldn't be for the water it would be perfect.

edit:
And always go alone, vs a team of like 3 or 4 bots. Maybe more if you want to but right now I give everybody 3 reinforcements and play a 3 man bot team all alone. I like this setting a lot.

Olethros, would you consider adding some kind of "Hold Formation" command? Ie. Give the bots a hold order at a point, the first one there holds position facing forwards. The rest stand 3-4 feet away and look in a different direction? :)

Well, I've noticed that when you order a bot to Hold Position, they automatically face the exact same position you were facing. That must mean there is a "facing" variable somewhere. Find this key and you can get bots to face practically anything.

Well, the problem with this is that the bots will always face forwards. I.e. the way you are pointing whenever you give the hold order. I'm thinking of making them turn the way you are facing exactly 5 seconds after you give the order to circumvent this, although this might be overly complicated.

As for formation, I'll have to look closer into the INF bot code for this. Seems to be some fairly interesting stuff in there about this very thing, but I'm not quite sure how much of it can be used at the moment.

My favorite botmaps are a mixture of Inf maps, maps brought over from UT and Night's Edge, a UT TC.

Night's Edge maps are urban-themed with:
  • a damaged subway called "Metro"
  • a shipping area made up of warehouses and containers called "Cargo"
  • a small section of city called "Disturbance"
  • another small section of citiy revolving around a parking garage called "Downtown."

UT map is Phobos as it is quite intense.

Inf Maps are "Peru" and "Scramble."

I like small Urban/CQB type maps. Some of the Night's Edge Maps are large enough for some sniping, but still small enough to run on my slow system.

BTW, if anyone knows how to remove the invisible barrier written into "Downtown" that will allow you access to the upper levels of the parking garage, please let me know. With a little modding this already excellent map would make an even better map. I tried removing it in UEd and after saving, it's still there. I haven't worked in UEd in several years so I'm very rusty.

Night's Edge has a hosted site on Planet Unreal and I'm not sure if they still have a Beyond Unreal page or not.
