View Full Version : What would you be interested in when it comes to web hosting ?

I've recently upgraded the Smiley web site to a reseller account out of curiosity and would like to know what people are interested in, from the point of view of service and price.

I can offer an account complete with Cpanel access and ftp and can accomodate site sizes from 50 MB all the way up to 500 MB (1 GB exceptionally). What I'd like to do is make a credible offer for those people who are looking for a small web space to rent and also provide some free forums.

On the support side, I'm not sure what to do so I'd like some input on that. The service will be something that is provided by the clan I'm in and would be orientated towards the gaming/clan crowd, although we're currently hosting web sites that are only remotely related. When it comes to price, I'm undecided but I'd say something like $5 per month for 500 MB. I'd like some feedback on that too and would like to know what is considered as reasonable. Perhaps I should make pricing more advantageous the higher the volume or something.

P.S: Relating to the other post I made today, this isn't related. It's just some way to generate a little income that will be used to partly go towards the clan's activities.

These days, to make it worth it, you'd have to provide a domain name per reg, apache, php, mysql etc etc etc.

Yes, I forgot to mention that this includes php & sql as well as a few services that Cpanel offers. A domain can be acquired and linked to a site.

Shell accounts. :P I already have my own hosting, though (60gb bandwidth per month, gig storage, PHP/Perl/MySQL/SSI/SSL, subdomains, and much much more).

Would you be limiting bandwidth?

Yes, I'll should limit bandwidth proportionally to the space being used. However, if there's some bandwidth left each month, I don't see any problem extending that.

This is just in general from all the webhosting I have looked at :)

1: I dont need 3GB of hard drive space I am not going to use, maybe 300MB at the most
2: I want an awful lot of bandwidth, 100x the content space at least
3: I dont want to be forced to buy or transfer my domain name to your company, I have a company that handles that very well >:(
4: Uptime, uptime, uptime and some notice of scheduled downtime
5: Cheap, like a budgie XD

You seem to cover some of those so I could maybe consider your service XD

"Rollover" bandwidth, I've been waiting for someone to do that. As for offering domain names, I don't think you'd really have to. It'd be a good idea, of course, but not totally necessary for anyone to be interested. CPanel will draw people, since that is quickly becoming a must for hosts.

Amen.
