I knew Pipex were doing free speed upgrades around the country, so it wasn't a total surprise, but I connected today to find my speed upped to 2.2Mbps, according to the Windows dialup window.

Now this is where it gets confusing. I thought Pipex were doing basic speed upgrades where it was twice the speed for the same price - so mine should have been 1Mbps. I decided to try out a download and it got further confusing still - my transfer rate was still at around 58KB/s, although the download seemed to be faster. Probably just my imagination though.

I checked the Pipex website and Solo 500 (the service I'm paying for) is no longer available. They have Solo 1000, Solo 2000 and Lite 2000, and a rather crappy Solo 250. Right now I'm still on Solo 500, according to my account details, but I'm supposedly connected at Solo 2000 speeds.

Any other Pipex users experienced this? Furthermore, how come my connection rates itself at 2.2Mbps when it can only download at 512k speeds? (Yes, I've tried reconnecting)

I'm on Pipex and I paid £15 one off fee for an upgrade to 1mbit (from the Solo 500) about 3 months ago with no change to the monthly charge. I also have 2.2mbit displayed in the connection window, but my connection tops out at 125 kb/s approx (about right for 1mbit). The only thing I can suggest is to run a broadband speed test to determine how fast your connection actually is right now.

You'll probably find that you'll have a tiny bit of downtime at some point, after which your connection will be 1mbit.

I got the upgrade to full 2mb, from 1mb.

I know that same thing has happened though, because one of my friends had it happen to him. I don't think it's anything to worry about though... :con:

Might be an idea to reinstall any associated network/modem drivers?

The regrade thing's awesome, took my £45 2mb connection down to £25. I might pop for a pay as you go too, drop it another £10.

Might be an idea to reinstall any associated network/modem drivers?

I did a full OS install yesterday evening, reinstalled the modem this morning and it still said 2.2mbps so it's not a network adaptor fault/driver error. I think this is just something that happens with ADSL, a friend of mine is on BT Internet and he has the same issue.

Your speed is important, not what it says in some connection box. If it said 56k in the connection box and you were actually connected at 8mbps I don't think this thread would have been made
