This movie is going to be great. I can't see Pete Jackson screwing this up. For a pretty new director he is absolutely brilliant. All he needs to do is apply his same epic vision he did for Lord of the Rings into King Kong and it'll be his next 1 billion dollar making movie.

Mr. Burns: You'll be the bait. Uh, I mean, the, uh, bait-thing beauty. The bathing beauty. Hm, I covered that up pretty well.
It could look a little more digital I think.

I think he will do a good job in this film. It looks like he leaves behind all his sillyness from his past movies and plays a serious role in this film. I decided to watch the trailer again and I am just really hyped up for this film, it should be amazing. After King Kong shows up, he will likely be taking over the whole movie anyways, that is after all who this film is about. I have a feeling this is going to be a 3 hour plus movie, something Jackson seems to love to do.

first half: wow, looks great
second half: CGI dinosaurs and giant insects, hell no :(
looks terrible
I noticed that I don't think it's stirring, if things are made with CGI
I enjoy real scenes a lot more(like the driving scene in bourne supremacy), that's why it's a giant let down for me

CG is the latest freaking craze, and it annoys the crap out of me. I'm also tired of Hollywood's unearthing of old classics and raping their cold, stiff anuses. I might not mind so much a remake of this movie if it was done with like, animatronics and clever cinematography (Jurassic Park yay), not crapass CG. But I guess you can't have KING KONG VERSUS A DINOSAUR LOLOLOL with that, not to mention it's cheaper to hire CG artists than to get the huge art team you'd need for models and mechanics.
Bleh. I won't be seeing it :p

Jackson's movies, prior to LotR, have pretty much been standard-length movies. IMO, the "3 hour plus movie" thing sounds more like an LotR thing than a Jackson thing. Then again, King Kong looks rather computer-generated effects heavy (in that LotR way), which kinda isn't Jackson's "thing", either. Seeing how King Kong will probably not be a giant epic, I'm not sure if 3 hours is even necessary; better to have a shorter, tighter motion of events than painfully drawn out Contact-type fluff.
As for Jack Black, first it was Adam Sandler, then Jim Carrey, and Jamie Foxx has ben doing the drama routine for a while now. In recent years, as much as it surprises me, comedians can, ya know, act.

Those insects are actually real. Its a species of Weta called the Giant Cave Weta, native to New Zealand.

erm, I've to correct you
adam sandler didn't start to make dramas
he still made his comedy movies, but people realised they're not funny

CG isn't the latest craze and it doesn't suck, it just isn't used properly. I keep going back to LOTR because that was Peter Jacksons last film he did. He used a lot of CG and you barely noticed it. If the director knows what he is doing he can use CG without it being incredibly annoying.
I don't see what the problem is, you guys are just finding nitpicks to rip the film apart. The original King Kong is pretty bad by todays standards anyways and king kong himself looked awful even for the time it came out. So I don't know why anyone would want them to use the same technology for this film when CG can do it just as good.
I'm being optimistic, Peter Jacksons big movie track record is flawless and perfect, so I have no reason to believe his interpration of King Kong won't be good.

-I'm as optimistic as the next guy, but Peter Jackson doesn't have a big movie track record. He made ONE piece. Granted, LotR was one of the greatest movies of all time, but it was really one thing so far for him. We aren't talking a Scorsese, Coppola, or Kurosawa here. So until he makes about...2 or 3 more aces, we can't say much about his track record. Chris Nolan did BB, hist first big movie...I don't think anyone is ready to say his big movie record is flawless.
-Ray Harryhausen revolutionized special effects. Do you know what movie changed his life? King Kong dammit. The guy who did the special effects for King Kong (don't remember name, too lazy to check) won the first special effects Oscar! It did not look awful when it came out (it was 1933 for Pete's sake), and I really don't understand why you say things like that. You start out decently, and then you make me feel sad by saying things like that.
-The CG in LotR looked terrific. The CG in King Kong does not look terrific. Jurassic Park looked sharper than the trailer. Now, the movie doesn't come out til December, so perhaps they will have it cleaned up quite nicely by then, but that's just a hope. I personally was digging the trailer until I saw the CG monsters.

iirc the original KK had dinos in it as well, so it's not like that's newly added or anything.

It wasn't just King Kong or the dinosaurs that were distractingly CG, it was the backgrounds. Not that they're likely to film in a jungle, but, theoretically, a real jungle could look better than a fake one, even a well done fake one.

Yes.
No but there are lots of species, not all of them live in caves.
As for the movie, looks pretty good to me, not so sure about those dinosaurs but as long as they dont decrease quality of the movie its fine with me :D
