View Full Version : Dildos: why blur them?

Watching "Me, Myself and Irene" just now, they came up to a scene where Jim Carrey holds up a 10-inch rubber DONG (that's funnier than dildo) which TNT has mosaic-ed. (Funny enough, the shadow wasn't blurred out.) I'd think a phallic object would only need to be blurred if it wasn't in use (ex: Private Parts, the sausage part).

(Another thing: sometimes networks censor "goddamn" but they aren't here.)

Yeah and usually it's the god part not the damn part. What is that about?

I'm fond of when they cut out the "hole" in "assh*le."

Heh. A friend and I were watching Private Parts on tv a few years ago, the censor must have been tired because they missed the bleeps by a second or two most of the time.

You know, this thread is just some kind of weird...and the kind of thread that enriches BUF.

Watching TNT

There's your answer. TNT doesn't know WTF when it comes to editing/censoring stuff.

You guys get stuff bleeped? The UK used to only bleep c***, but they stopped that in the mid '90s :)

Actually, it was FX. (Fox cable channel)

Angel_Mapper: usually when they show Saving Private Ryan they don't censor it at all.

Yep Selerox. Even words like "ho" get bleeped here.

That's funny that you mention that, because you remember back around Veteran's Day they had that showing of SPR on ABC, and a bunch of stations removed to air it because they didn't want the...'profanity'? I mean...of all the things in the movie...the 'profanity'? What a nation of sissies we live in.

Edit: By nation, I mean anyone associated with the American Family Association. Their kids are going to suck.

certain words are acceptable to sensors, while certain words are not, for instance, damn (damm) is fine, but goddamn is not, so they have to sensor only the word god. ass (asssss) is fine, but you can't say ******* (assshole) so they have to sensor the word hole.

as to why you would sensor a dildo, different networks have different rules for different times of the day in different circumstances, for instance, they can show dildos all they want on FX on The Sheild because it is an adult themed show, shown at night, however showing a movie (really any movie) before 8 pm and FX needs to sensor those things, that's still considered the witching hour for children, and even still with a movie like Me Myself and Irene, which is marketed to appeal to ages under 18, they need to sensor those things out because they know who the target audience is.

I saw that too and was thinking the same thing, I came to the conclusion that they had to censor it because it wasn't just a floppy rubber stick but actually looked like a real dong(iirc). I remember an episode of Tom Green where he was interviewing people with dildo's as mic's and I think only some of them were blurred out. But I'm not really sure about any of that, just offering a possible answer:p

WTF?!?!?!?!??! :con: I would half-see if they would take it off the air for the violence but i wouldnt see them take it off for "profanity". This country is sooooooo messed up.

Damn you live in a f*cked up country. They broadcast a war on live tv but they blur out dildo's and beep out words? That's sad and funny at the same time.

Ah, but killing terrorists and evil people is good. Anything that could be associated with natural bodily functions or having fun with them is Bad.
