View Full Version : Ambush a convoy?

Just an idea, since I always thought of some of the maps in DAUT as long supply routes (canyon), maybe have one situation where the map involves ambush or intercepting a convoy of armoured vehicles or troops?

Just a little idea that you most likely have already thought about.

yeah, all very cool ideas.

There are a few problems with moving objectives such as if you are using vehicles. there is lag to consider, also the space you have to allow such movement etc

The best example is the convoy maps where the scenery is moving and the "map" is standing still.

I will give it some thought still.

The other side could be protecting some vehicles which you follow on foot.

I wouldn't imagine it being to laggy. Maybe just a handful of AI controlled vehicles that follow a set path via script, like Leviathans or something. If they make it to the end of the path it finishes the game.

An objective can get a static mesh in DA2 which can be a mover in the maps as well I believe. I think the best thing to do is having multiple stop points meaning a convoy can start and then it goes to one stop where the enemy is prepared. Then after that it moves to the next point etc.

Attackers are trying to capture it or something dunno might need to check out more stuff in code

Ew! I was looking forward to DA2 but this idea kind of sucks. I've played many such type maps since the mid 90's and it's a pretty dull concept especially if you can't control the vehicles. I would focus on just what you have now instead of creating stuff that will give a negative view of the game. UT2004 mods rarely ever get played so .... and there is already a AS-convoy which is ok since it gives the illusion of speeding.

I would assume they wouldnt abandon the infantry only game types...

I thin this could be great if there were other thing too it aswell, like having to go and open a gate/blow up an obstacal in the path of the convoy. Traps along the route could be good too (like the rolling logs in Battlefield: Vietnam

Hey!! It worked in ET!!

Anybody ever played ET? There you had to escort a tank through the map.. The tank would only drive if there was someone near it... And it could be destroyed.. If the tank was destroyed you could repair it on the same spot and it would drive on, from Waypoint to waypoint across the map (no controlling it, just its turret)... It was actually very much fun.. Obviously you need to control an area to drive the tank or you'll get killed, also, Repairing it needs the area to be safe. Not sure if anybody ever played Enemy Territory here, but that would be the ideal solution for this kind of map...
