LCD Monitor goes very dark all by it self

Today my monitor had a bit of a fit. It went very dark for a minute or two then came back to normal brightness. This happened a couple of times and now it is extremely dark all the time. Originally I thought it was turning the feed off, it's that dark. Had to borrow my brother's old monitor to post this.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?
