View Full Version : Planning on hosting a UT:XMP server? Read this.

IndianPsycho

We're planning on releasing a dedicated UT:XMP server install a few days prior to the public release. If you're planning on hosting a UT:XMP server, please post your email address here as well as the IP address(es) of the UT2K4 or XMP server(s) you're currently running. PMing me or sending us an email at info@free-monkey.com (subject: UT:XMP Dedicated Server) with the same info will also do.

The dedicated UT:XMP server install will be the UT2004 dedicated server package but with UT:XMP added to it and unused UT2004 packages stripped from it to reduce file size.

Spread the word, the more servers the better :)

Hi this is Nekrataal from [GDC]. We'll take up service again for XMP. IP will be: 213.202.216.46. Iam not sure but I presume that AzzraelDLX will perform the installation (maybe me). So it is either azzrael(bad sign)gamersdungeon.de or Dirk.Langheim(bad sign)gmx.de.

>DE< is planning on running at least one server with the possibility of
running more.

Our current UT2004 server 67.18.134.74. This will most
likely become our dedicated UTXMP server.

Will there be a Linux version? If so, will it also be
available prior to the 10th?

The UT:XMP dedicated server package will be a ready-to-use .zip archive totally ready to run. There will be an included .bat file to start the server under Windows. It has not been tested under Linux but it should work - I'll try to test this during the next week.

Unlike other mods, it will literally be possible to unzip the archive, execute the batch file and have a functioning server. Of course it may be necessary to alter settings for your specific configuration needs.

UT:XMP has already been tested with SafeGame 101 Beta 5e and AntiTCC 118d. Both packages function with the mod with a few minor changes. The only known "bug" right now is that both of these mutators cause a delay of about 5 secs during first spawn. I'm working to resolve this but I dont know if it will be possible to fix before Dec 10th.

Instructions on setting up both SafeGame and AntiTCC should be included in the readme file with the server, or a forum posting if I forget :)

Facts at the time of this posting:
- The size of the current dedicated server install archive is ~770megs (smaller than 2K4)
- mapvote does not work but we are working to get it working before release
- server CPU util should be comparable to ONS (so forget running a 32 player server unless you have an FX-53)

FactoryUnreal.com will have at least 2 public XMP servers running at release time.

Hi!

The servers we run now are:
62.75.136.211:6666 (<-- Public, RGB Only)
62.75.136.211:7777 (<-- Public, Custom Maps)
62.75.136.211:8888 (<-- pw'ed, for pcw, etc)

Actually these servers (rgb & funk) were planned to remain unattended (at least for a few more days), since there are quite a few people, that haven't purchased ut2k4 yet. so i am not going to cut up the services for u2xmp, but will bring up additional utxmp servers, i think.

Yes, servers (I think that's what you intended with your question).
I was thinking of maybe two of them, one to host all maps, the other one to serve smaller maps for quicker, less though-intensive action (<-- but haven't thought about that properly yet, tbh). But it's also all depending on how much traffic they get.
If FMI made the game as great, as we all hope it is, and the servers are crowded all day, chances are good that we add a third one for the first few days after the release.

136.176.62.100

.edu 10mbit line, Internet2
Located in Peoria IL (not far from Chicago)

It's for UT99 RA, since as far as I'm concerned, ut2k* is a pile of crap when it comes to gameplay.

But I'm looking forward to playing XMP, and I can install UT:XMP server on the box if there is demand for it. Machine's pretty powerfull too: dual 2.8 xeons (not that 2k* supports it), 2 gigs'o'ram.

Final touches are being made to the game right now. The server cant be built until those are finished. Sorry it wasnt released days in advance, but some of these fixes are necessary.

Yes, you will be able to run other gametypes on an XMP server. If you wish to do this, use a standard UT2K4 dedicated server install and add the XMP mod to it.

The dedicated server install that FMI will be releasing will not include the standard UT2K4 maps, so you will not be able to run other gametypes unless you copy the maps into the server once its installed. This stripped distribution is to make the download size small for those that want a quick, easy UT:XMP server install with no fuss.

Incidentally, I tested the server install under Debian linux. Basical functionality was verified so running the server under linux shouldnt be a problem. Some changes to the install will have to be made in order to get it to work (stupid things like making ucc-bin executable, and using your own startup script or commandline). But you linux people are smart so I'm sure you can figure it out.

Stay tuned.

Nice...I will be running a server then...ip in sig...email wileypeyote at zoominternet dot net. One more question...the "XMP mod" is the same as the client install then?

IndianPsycho

As far as I know you should be able to just copy our package over your normal 2K4 dedicated server installation and everything should still work no problem, including your other gametypes.

On a side note, the dedicated server package is not a playable version of UT:XMP.

UT:XMP Dedicated Server Archive
Version IR-N
*******************************************************************************

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Information
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Type.................: Game
Platform.............: Unreal Tournament 2004
Serial #.............: USE-YOUR-UT2004-SERVER-KEY
More Info............: http://free-monkey.com/
Compression Format...: ZIP
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Portions (c) Epic Games - www.epicgames.com
Portions (c) Free Monkey Interactive - www.free-monkey.com

Intro / QuickStart:
-------------------
This is a complete, ready-to-use dedicated server install for UT:XMP. Simply
unzip into the directory of your choice (preserving the folder structure) and
run UTXMP_SERVER.bat (located in the [basedir]\system folder).

*** If you are installing this on top of an existing UT2K4 server installation,
your existing UT2K4 server installation MUST be patched to v3339 ***

- the UTXMP.ini file is located in [basedir]\utxmp\system. This is the .ini
file that is read by the UT:XMP server - NOT the one in [basedir]\system.

Specifics:
----------
This will install the dedicated server with the following settings:
- webadmin enabled (port 8080 by default)
- username: Admin
- password: ChangeMe (please change this ASAP for security reasons)
- UT:XMP mod loads by default
- maplist populated with all UT:XMP maps
- players = 16
- friendlyfire = 50% (0% is for n00bs)

Linux Support:
--------------
This archive was tested under Debian Linux and verified for basic
functionality. Extensive testing was not performed in this environment. Please
make sure that the ucc-bin file has execute permissions.

AntiCheat Support:
------------------
UT:XMP was tested with AntiTCC v118d and SafeGame 101 Beta 5e. Both of these
mutators can provide basic anti-cheat functionality with UT:XMP. *** In order
to use these mutators you must make 2 crucial changes to the configuration: ***

- AntiTCC v118d:
[AntiTCC118d.MutAntiTCCFinal]
AllowedConsoleClass=XMPUI.XMPConsole
AllowedGUIControllerClass=XMPUI.XMPGUIController

- SafeGame 101 Beta 5e:
[SafeGame101Beta5e.MutSafeGame]
ExpectedConsole=XMPUI.XMPConsole
ExpectedGUIController=XMPUI.XMPGUIController

Extensive testing with these mutators was not performed. Obviously there will
be unneeded functions enabled by default that should be disabled. It is even
possible that some settings will have a negative impact on the server and
gameplay. We do NOT guarantee that these mutators will function 100% with
UT:XMP.

GDC UTXMP server will go offline end of February. After experiencing a full year of fun matches in U2XMP and serving the UTXMP community since the beginning we will now close down our game server for UTXMP. It was simply no use anymore to pay for another server if it isnt used ... neither by GDC members nor public players.

Sorry to see it go. However, it is the most prudent move. It would be fairly unwise to pay for something that is useless.
