View Full Version : Dedicated server early release for server admins?
2nd Dec 2004, 04:16 AM
hi, i run the Unreal Series of game at Wireplay (www.wireplay.co.uk)
is there any possibility of a server admin option/list so we can get servers up and running before its released so ppl arent hanging about waiting ????
getting this mod downloaded onto my boxes and setup and configured and running properly BEFORE the public release is crucial to giving ppl a great server experience staight off the bat instead of ppl having to wait or play on some guys saturated home cable connection...

We have 2 servers currently running for UT2004, one for DM and one for ONS. However we are basically converting to an UTXMP clan as soon as this comes out, we would also like to know if we can get a server up and running ASAP. We are thinking of making 2 servers for UTXMP 1 for open games and 1 for matches. Back to the orignal question, will there be a pre server release?

we hope to release the dediacted server a few days early.... at least we're trying to :P

PLEASE PLEASE make that happen
there is NOTHING worse for a server admin than to be getting crap download rates when u have to queue with every man and his dog when getting a new mod.
gather a list of potential server admins and release the dedicated version a few days before and you will be praised from on high by every admin who runs a server

If I said I have a server could I get it early too?

well seeing as the dedicated server has files missing meaning u cant actually play the mod, only run a server then u can say anything u like :)
your still not gonna be able to play it early :D

Yes, we'd like to have the BBF server up and running for everyone ASAP. Contact myself or [BBF]Killinya when its ready.

*cough* I'll go ahead and take one for the team here. If all these dedicated servers get xmp up and running someone's gonna have to have the full version of the game to jump in there and make sure everything was installed correctly. now I was fine with waiting for the 10th but ya know.... I'll be a nice guy and make sure everything's running smoothly for ya. :mwink: :-)

I have a 24 player linux server waiting for this to be released, but I also have to upload all the files first and it takes forever with my crap upload rate, a server release would be nice a few days before teh actual release. ;)

Me Wants it...I have to the do the work of setting it up... Wolfy is just a bossy wassy.
Instructions on setting up the mod (not how to set up a server in general) would be nice too.. if you have any experiences with UT2Vote, and safegame I would be interested in hearing them.

just a question, will servers running UTXMP be able to switch back and forth between other gametypes or will the server have to be all XMP or nothing?

The dedicated UT:XMP server install will only have everything from 2K4 needed for a UT:XMP server to run (you won't be able to play it, even if you copy all the UT:XMP stuff in the install to a normal 2K4 installation). This would mean you can't just switch back and forth between a 2K4 and UT:XMP server with this install.
If you do want to switch back and forth though, you can just install on a previously installed 2K4 dedicated server. This would leave all 2K4 files in-tact and would mean you can switch back and forth.

Good idea air!
We could do what we did on gotwoot.net forum ( one of animeone's main torrent hosters.) We basically used a thread as a chat room, posting every second, and We well got over 5000 posts, even with " You cannot post within X amount of time " type things.
We crashed the gotwoot forums so many times after that, made them get like 3 different versions, and server upgrades XD
