[For JB 200x]

Some fun ways to die:

-Death by impalement. Floor of the holding cell slides away to 2 sides, prisoners fall into pit which is filled with long sharp vertical steel spikes/wooden stakes. Most will get it where the sun don't shine.

-Death by toxic goo. Prisoners fall into pit filled with green slime, or slime floods the cell.

-Death by snakes/scorpions/rats/carnivorous mutant scarabs. Again, the prisoners either fall into a pit below, or the aforementioned critters are released into the cell. Snakes either bite & poison or strangle (or both, using two types of snake). The scorpions sting & poison. The scarabs swarm over the victims and eat them alive (lots of blood & gore flying about), leaving just a skeleton. Inspired by The Mummy, obviously. ;) The rats do pretty much the same thing.

-Death by snakes II. This one is inspired by Dante's Inferno: snakes slither into the cell, jump/wrap themselves around the prisoners and bite them into their heads/necks, which causes them to burn to ashes (could leave a skeleton, tho). Apparently this is how thieves get punished in Hell.

-Death by liquid nitrogen. Prisoners are exposed to cryogenic gases, then fracture into a thousand bits.

-Death by arrows. Arrows shoot from either slots in the wall, or are fired from "ramparts" or through the jail's bars by (cross)bow-wielding executioners (reskinned UT pawns, custom models?).

-Death by fish. Prisoners are dumped into a huge aquarium filled with sharks or piranhas (alternatively, water floods the aquarium-like cell, and the fish swim in). The former rip them to pieces, take off body parts etc., while the latter remove all the flesh and leave just a skeleton. The water turns red.

Maybe, through clever use of death & ragdoll animations, more fancy types of execution could be tried, such as hanging and breaking on the weel.

Cooler still: a map pack based on the 7 deadly sins! :D
-Pride (broken on the wheel)
-Envy (put in freezing water)
-Gluttony (force-fed rats, toads, and snakes)
-Lust (smothered in fire and brimstone)
-Anger (dismembered alive)
-Greed (boiled alive in oil)
-Sloth (thrown into snake pits)

There are also certain colors and animals associated with each sin. These could be used as map themes. More sin-related info at this site.

why not the good old bullet to the back of the head?

Sure, why not, as long as it isn't the only method of execution. That would be kinda lame. Right now there is too much repetition (lightning, burning, people just dropping dead for no apparent reason...), and too few really creative/hideous means of execution. That's a goddarned shame, as the execution sequence is (or should be) really the icing on the cake, IMO. Your due reward for a hard-won victory -- or punishment for a shameful defeat.

If you're gonna put lots of effort into making a kick-ass map, why not go that extra mile and add a truly explicit and original execution sequence? The examples I gave earlier were just off the top of my head, there must be countless more cool and technically feasible ways to "skin a cat". Hmm... And the sin theme (1 bonus pack, 7 maps, 7 different levels of Hell, 7 hideous and authentic tortures), man, that would be DA BOMB! It ain't just me either, people love this ****. Instant classic. Word. ;)

Remember Brimstone? Got cancelled in its first season, terrible bloody shame. Anyway, the theme would be perfect for JB/the 7 sins pack:

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
"Peter Horton ("Thirtysomething") stars as Ezekiel Stone in this hour-long action thriller. Stone was a detective who took vengeance on the man who raped his wife by killing him in cold blood. After Stone gets killed in the line of duty, the devil judges him and sends him to hell. When a mass jailbreak unleashes a host of hell's prisoners, the dead cop makes a deal with the devil to capture these escaped souls in exchange for heavenly redemption."

One team could be the "hellcops", and the other escaped sinners. If the latter get captured, they go back to their spot in hell. If the cops fail, they'll have to take their place. Let the games begin!

Because mappers aren't usually coders, and l33t executions require a fair amount of mucking about with complex set-ups.
Things like rising water, poison gas, etc, are really tricky to get to look right.

Yeah, some of these ideas would require some pretty fancy coding I suppose, and sometimes even new models (snakes etc.) Basically at least two people should work on each map: a mapper and a coder, both pros. Certainly something as ambitious as the Sinpack, almost a game within a game (within a game!) would require a team effort. But it would be well worth it, IMO. JB is a very cool mod and it deserves the very best maps, with the most revolting means of execution known to man. :)

If you notice online theres not many people about, let alone mappers! but it maybe years before any of that could happen... probably never. :hmm:

Come on people, we ain't talking total conversion here! OK, I understand that some of the above suggestions could be somewhat challenging, but whoever did the other execution sequences could surely also slap together something relatively straightforward like "death by impalement" or "death by U1 monsters". And afaik "death by toxic goo" is almost identical to "death by lava", coding-wise, yet is has an entirely different feel to it (which is good in this case).

Oh, and here's another one that shouldn't be too difficult to do: death by drowning. Lots of possibilities here, of course. In a castle/gothic setting you could have a filty (green slime on walls etc.) dungeon that gets flooded, for example, and in a more high-tech setting a room that basically looks like a giant fishtank.
