View Full Version : What game should I buy next?

14th Apr 2000, 09:22 AM
Hey folks,

Just looking for a little input on the next game I should buy.

Soldier of Fortune: despite initially being excited for this game I replayed the demo and realized that it was pretty $hit. AI was lousy, multiplayer was pathetic. What do the rest of you think?

NOX: Not usually my cup of tea but I've been playing FPS for as long as I can remember now (except for the occasional RTS) and I want to try something new. Should I just wait till Diablo 2?

Superbike 2000: Looks fantastic, got a great review in PC gamer. I always play racing games when I go to the arcade but have yet to get hooked on the PC anyone played this one? (plus I have a sidewinder force feedback joystick collecting dust....)

Q3A: Although the game out of the box is a little limited there should be some mods poping up soon, is it worth my while?

Gimme some ideas guys, I'm desperate to spend some money!!!!!

World Peace thrue Cyber-violence......

I haven't tried it, but I've heard Homeworld is a pretty good game and System Shock 2 also.

As for Q3A, it might be worth having in the software library. I've only played Q3A a few times, and it is impressive graphics wise, but UT owns!

Daikatana, the best virtual FPS ever to exist! "Virtual" you say? Yep, it's "virtually" done, and it will look "virtually" as good as Quake II...

*Snort, guffaw, LOL* Oh, I crack myself up...

Nox is a great game, diablo-like but in a good way. Much deeper than diablo. D2 wont be out for months anyway, still in closed beta...

I got SoF, it runs like a dog on windows2k, none of the people i know with win2k can get it to run as well as the demo did with the same settings.

Force commander (star wars RTS) seems cool, roommate just got it. 3d rts

Homeworld is neat-o, best graphics ive seen in a while. Gets pretty hard, multiplayer is very slow.

Everquest/Asherons call: be warned, if you get either of these you wont have any free time left.

If you havent played Tribes yet go get it /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif Ive been playing this baby for a year.

SS2 will scare the pants off of ya. Even if ya wear a belt. And it's pretty cheap now (Local Walmart has it for around $18)

I actually already own homeworld (not that impressed with the gameplay, graphics were good...) and System Shock 2 (INCREDIBLE).

Can't say that I'm all that into RPG's, and the star trek games have always bombed. TF 2 is a definite buy but it won't be coming out for a while (and it's going to be on the now ancient (yet highly modified) Quake 2 engine AUGH!)

Anyone else?

I've had SS2 for a while, never found the time to play it.Think i'll dust it off and give it a go now.

Definitely looking forward to "Black and White"...will take some time to come out...I wonder whether Daikatana will be released first...

I want to play god (or at least a godgame)

Don't get SoF.

I've turned a 180 on that game after playing if for a while. It just doesn't live up to the hype. Its more like a SoF beta with all the sh!t that's wrong with it. I mean they did like zero testing on this thing.

Messiah is good, but I think its more of a PSX or console game than PC based one.

Wait for Halo and Tribes 2.

Oh man, those 2 are gonna rock.

What NObody mentioned Battle Zone and Battle Zone 2! You guys are sick! How can you not like BZ. It is both FPS and RTS in one game. Awsome graphics good AI (mostly), and very good story.

OK I am sold! I have to go and get BZ2...

<talking to wife now> Honey can I have some money to buy a game! Please, Pleazzzzzze,Pretty PLEEEEEEEEZE!

Planescape:Torment (best CRPG I ever played)

Age of Kings (best RTS I've ever played)

RailRoad Tycoon II (gold edition - killer strategy game)

NFS5: Porsche Unleashed (car physics are awesome - and they actually want you to drive WITHOUT MANGLING THE CAR - best racing game yet).

I just finished Diablo (picked it up off my shelf 2 days ago), and man was it good (too short though). I can't wait for Diablo2.

I'm also anticipating Team Fortress2, Halo and Tribes2.

14th Apr 2000, 04:18 PM
Well if anyone is a strategy fan
Age of Wonders
It is very close to the old microprose Age of magic. It is intense and Hard as HXXL to beat. Magic, dragons, elves, drawf`s you name it it`s in here. 12 different race`s over a hundred spells. And the AI is strong very had to defend and attack against.

Just make sure you get the latest patch after that no problems.

He Shoots..He Scores..He gets shot in the back.

Same as Warlords I, II, III.

Nothing really new there. But - it does seem put together well.

Amen. Tribes 2.

Of all the games you could buy I would recommend Soldier of Fortune.
What a game!

Nox was one word: LAME! They took the best part of Diablo, the multiplayer mode, and made it a stupid DEATHMATCH!? What the hell? I played the single player, and it was over in like 10 hours maximum.. very lame.. and you get the same stuff with all 3 character classes...

Diablo 2 will be the only "Diablo killer" that so many people think games like Nox, Darkstone, or Baulder's Gate were going to be. (I was disappointed by all 3 of them after playing Diablo)

14th Apr 2000, 07:18 PM
Baldur's Gate BLEW AWAY Diablo. Diablo's not even in the same country as BG, much less neighborhood.

Now, the others were Diablo knock-off's yes.

Diablo - while fun - has NOTHING on BG.

That being said - I am really looking forward to Diablo II (& BG:II)

I recently got both SoF and Thief 2.

SoF is fun, but not longlasting. Thief on the other had has got me on the top of my seat. Sure it may not have the most advanced engine but the suspense and atmosphere won't leave you alone /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Yeah lady, you and the IRS...
