So, I recently moved into my new college apartment, and one of the first things we did was set up our communal internet. We got Comcast, and then we went to Frys and got a D-Link wireless router and wireless cards for all six of us. Everybody connects perfectly to the network... but me. Then I tried connecting to somebody else's network that was within range, and it worked perfectly fine. I thought that I was just out of range, since I was situated farthest away. I went to Frys again today and purchased a length of Cat-5 so I could physically connect to the router, and that doesn't work either.
Now, here's the weird part: with both options, the computer always said there was a strong connection, and with the wireless, the signal strangth was good, but niether will let packets go back and forth. I get a max of 3 packets.
This is even weirder: The other person's wireless network that worked perfectly fine for me was a Linksys. The system I had at home was also a linksys, and that worked perfectly.
I had installed SP2 at home before I came to the apartment. so I'm thinking that may have had to do with something, but I uninstalled it, and the internet still doesn't work. I really need your help guys.
And yeah, I'm writing this from a friend's computer.
Short: It says I'm connected, but I can't access the internet, AIM, etc.
