EON (Beta 0) IS OUT

Eon beta 0 by Corona Leonis Entertainment is out NOW! http://www.coronaleonis.com/eon/beta0/LatestFiles.html

At this time we are having a release party at #eon on irc.enterthegame.com

Some info about Eon, ripped form their site:

Eon is a first person combat game set in the cataclysmic final hour of a living universe - the epic final battle battle between good and evil that speeds its way toward the world's unmaking.

These simple constructions of Eon are intended as a sample of the fully produced game that we soon intend to develop. We present this as a fully realized three part campaign focusing on a single region of the world. Players should be able to get a feel for the game's atmosphere and gameplay style even in this severely limited construct.

Eon is a multiplayer focused modification for Epic Games' Unreal Tournament 2003/2004. This modification is also an entry in Epic Games' make something Unreal Contest in which we've already taken top place for the best model category.

Bring war to the end of time
Take part in a war of such ruinous calamity, such boundless fury that its climax will bring about the dissolution of the material universe. Drive the fate of a universal war waged by ancient primordial spirits, vast armies of soldiers equipped with lethal arsenals of weapons, vehicles, and artillery, and rampaging hordes of horrifying monstrosities.

Choose your allegiance
Immerse yourself in the role of a soldier in the armies of man fighting against the rising of destruction's tide as the world itself is ruined away. Choose from among an arsenal of modern and ancient weapons, ride to war on deerback in a swift and agile cavalry company, and take refuge in grand fortresses built to outlast all assailants.

OR

Take up the fearsome mantle of the beasts and help bring about the violent end of all things. Become the mighty Shepherd, an implacable horror possessed of matchless physical power and supernatural ability, or the swift and agile Shrike, a reckless force of fury embodied in a frame of preternatural speed and agility.

Campaign warfare
This iteration of Eon is a campaign that takes place in the ancient province of Camanai. With the battle beginning in the central region - the highlands of Anul Eperi - the victory of one side or the other will determine where the course of the battle moves next: into the wilderness where the beasts had begun their invasion or into the inhabited farmlands of Tayleul. A victory for men in the wilderness will vanquish the beasts and push them out of Camanai, and likewise a victory for the beasts in Tayleul will spell disaster and open Camanai to annihilation. Like a tug-of-war, the players themselves will determine the course of the battle with each victory and defeat.

Unprecedented tactical power
With our unique squad and command systems, you will experience combat with other players in cohesive units with in-depth awareness of their own squad's positioning and tactics. Elected commanders will lead their units using deep and intuitive systems that give them a level of control unheard of in other action games.

High standard of artistic execution
From the outset, one our driving goals has been to create an experience with unparalleled visual style and artistic execution. Using current generation technology, we have striven to raise the bar beyond the reach of the rest of the professional industry and amateur community alike. We now submit to your judgment the culmination of these efforts.

Continuous updates and expansions
In it's current release, Eon is in an incomplete and imperfect state. Over time, we will continue to release new content and systems until the Camanai campaign is complete. Keep checking back for news and updates.

so it's basically just a mod,right?
isn't off topic the wrong forum to tell the BU community the release of a beta of a UT04 mod? :con:

I have seen countless mod-release threads in OT that were never moved. So why move this one?

isn't this mod pretty on-topic?

Centered text... gah... please no!!! that's unreadable

Anyway, this mod is a joke, they've added so much detail in their levels (2 million polygons just for the grass  ) that I'm really worry about the gameplay. Fortunatly we're about to know how well it plays.

MMI - it was an iRC release only for a reason, edit the links out. That will probably crash that tiny ass server, it'll be mirrored on BU tomorrow probably.

I'm sure they didn't want you posting the link so 100,000 people could download it  from that tiny server

This new one is for UT2k4.

It's far more advanced than the UT2k3 alpha. You can play as Sheperd, Shrike (think Velociraptor) or Legionaire. It features an innovative melee combat system, a more elaborate map, hud, etc.

One thing I noticed were the solid working ladders. I don't know if CL really did something special with this or implemented it better or anything, but in practically all FPS, including UT2k4 mods, ladders are a problem for me, especially climbing down, but in this map I had no such trouble. You have to turn around like you would have to in reality, and the player climbs down safely with a solid grip on the ladder, and I really mean you can see the player grabbing the ladder.

The human aiming system is NightsEdgeUT-like just as Red Orchestra, the Sheperd has a crosshair for his cannon. The Shrikes use claws.
One feature currently lacking is the melee system. The animations are a bit too fast to enjoy them in FP, and since you see the actual player model, they are not centered on your view for viewing pleasure.
Also, atm the Sheperd has only few, the Shire only one melee attack. The Shire would be alot cooler with different attacks, which will certainly be added in the next releases. Hopefully.

you can seeyourself climbing down the ladder (your hands), and your feet/body when you look down because it mounts the camera on the headbone. remember that thread jc! created a while back in ut2004 forum about a "true first person...a la whatever" ? well this mod uses that.
