This was sent to me from a friend of a friend. This is NOT a thread to exhault Bush as to why he should be President. It is simply an observation of humanitarianism, someone who is in high power taking the time to say "thank you" to someone without making it a big publicity stunt. No matter what you think of Bush as President or what you think of his politics, you can't deny the fact that he is a man of character.

Picture included.

Above is a picture of Mike McNaughton of Denham Springs, LA. He stepped on a land mine in Afghanistan Christmas 2002. President Bush came to visit
the wounded in the hospital. He told Mike that when he could run a mile that
they would go on a run together. True to his word, he called Mike every
month or so to see how he was doing. Well, last week they went on the run, 1 mile with the president. Not something you'll see in the news, but
seeing the president taking the time to say thank you to the wounded and to give hope to one of my best friends was one of the greatest/best things I have seen in my life. It almost sounds like a corny email chain letter, but God bless him.

Of course its a good thing, but you dont know if its played and just an publicity stunt, because politics is such an dirty game these times

I figured someone without a clue would chime in. Won't be too long before Sam_the_Boy trys to convince everyone of just how little he knows.

bush seems to be a great guy to party :D , but he might be a bit boring when everyone is listening to what he says

I think it's just the opposite. Historically, every time Kerry gets in front of a camera his poll numbers drop. On the other hand, I'm sure reporters are salivating at the prospect of waiting to see just what Bushism is going to burst forth tomorrow. Entire books of them have been published.

afaik, that wasn't so much a media stunt. As it wasn't covered by the media.

 for the act. You can't diss that kind of hat tipping that GW did for McNaughton. & a big thanks goes to McNaughton from myself. Thanks for serving and for the sacrifice. May you be held in honor all the rest of your days.

It's just nice to see one overcome such an obstacle. Don't matter to me who he runs with.

BY ME!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!! Its nice to see this kind of thing regardless and it is a very good story that would bring many people to vote for him. It may or may not be political but there are supports for either on both side.

Well i'd have been cynical and said it was for the press, but hey, if it wasn't it's nice that he did it. But then I never thought he was evil encarnate, i just think he's an idiot.

still,
Well, it's hard to say it was just for the press, because this is the only time I've heard anything about it. If it was, then it failed miserably.

The picture just made me feel sad. The dude is running on something that looks like a cheap photoshop. Nothing Bush does for the soldier can make up for his loss.

You completely missed the point.

Yeah you really did, though Bush cant make up for it he made a promise to run with this person when he could(an optimistic type saying that was probably meant to stop an onsetting depression) and he came through with his word. No matter his actions you have to admit that was a very nice thing he did.

Nah, I didn't.

I respect that GWB kept his word. I respect that Bush does care (to some degree) about his soldiers. I realize that you wouldn't find Saddam or Tony Blair marching with somebody who got injured in a job-related-injury.

But the guy lost his leg and the picture is really upsetting.

That play on my name was incredibly witty and no-one has ever thought of it before.

Convinced yet?

In fact, I agree with Phoenix. This doesn't contradict anything I think about Bush. I still think he's not intelligent enough to rule the US, I still think his policies have been misguided on every front, and I still think his influences are extremely suspect. None of those mean he can't take a personal interest in someone's health.
