Run Spybot or some other proggy and clear all of your cookies. Well that what I did andI haven't had this problem is a while.

Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html) and/or Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/), and Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/)

As far as I know there isn't. It always booted me out when someone sent me a message in AIM until I made the AIM windows stop stealing focus when they're created. If your browser isn't open and you're getting popups then it sounds like you've got some spyware.

Unless u are talking about MSN, AIM or similair popups there shouldn't be any popups on your pc. If it is msn, aim etc just close the program before u play.

Otherwise, run Adaware, Spysweeper (a bit better than adaware imo) and get rid of all the tracking cookies etc.

Maybe I'm special, maybe I'm magic, but I've NEVER had ANY spyware on my system... (aside from the standard tracking cookies, harmless crap that wont do anything/collect anything). Why's that??? I DONT USE IE!!! Everyone should be switching to mozilla at their earliest convienience(sp?)... as for the popups. if they're spy/ad/mal/etc-ware related then follow the advice you've gotten so far.

If it's a window that opens seemingly on it's own. You may have the microsoft messenger service turned on (it has NOTHING to do with MSN)... to turn it off in a Run box, enter 'services.msc' find the messenger service, and turn it OFF (not auto, not manual, completely off, it's useless).

If it's your im program's, simply turn them off, you obviously dont want to be bothered when you're playing...

ps. sorry about my abrasiveness regarding the ie issue, i just cant stand any company who can stand by it's software when it's quite obvious the cause of almost all computer problems (spyware, viruses, etc...)

Don't some networks (schools, etc.) sometimes need the messenger service to perform certain tasks? Not sure why I think this, but I do.

I should add that Opera is a fine alternative to Mozilla if you're coming down off the IE.

Most programs can be set to not steal focus; this may mean setting something in your preferences to just flash an icon in the taskbar.

You may also find it handy to add known advertiser hostsnames to you hosts file and redirect them to, which is your local loopback IP address. There are several lists around the net that you may copy & paste right in. Google for "hosts file" and you'll find all kinds of info on what it does, and how to do it.

I'll add my recomendaion - use firefox or mozilla or opera. they have built in popup blockers.

But if you have popups when you are't webbrowsing, you've got spyware and use spybot S+D or adaware as advised above.

IE allows your PC to be infested far too easily, and I've stopped using it.

your in luck. this same thing used to happen to me back when spyware infected by computer. the solution is download spysweeper. it will keep running while your computers on. kinda like a virus protection software. it will block everything!
heres the site http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php
now its a free trial but they havent bugged me yet about anything. if they do just download a new version of it.
