View Full Version : Idea for Gametype!

I discussed this with one or two people on the irc channel a few days ago and I thought it was cool.

Basically I'm thinking of DA's own CTF gametype, which would be a cross between the CTF from the Tribes series, and the Siege Mod for UT2k4.

Each team has a base. Each base has a generator, a flag, inventory stations to suit up your character, vehicle pads, ammo and healing recharge stations, force fields covering vital parts of the base, and a few weapons laying about.

The force fields would normally be around the flag, I assume, and the only way to get to the flag would be to send a few people to go into the base and take out their generator. When the gen is down, all force fields, inventory, ammo, and healing stations shut down, along with vehicle pads. The only way to get the base operational is to pick up a repair kit (lying about the base, again) and repair the generators. So when the gens go down, the forcefields go down, and someone can grab the flag. As you see, this could be a great way to get teamwork into the game.

Also, optional would be the ability to have turrets on the bases to shoot from (manually), or the ability to pick up automatic, AI-enhanced turrets from the inventory station in which you can drop anywhere you please (near your flag, gen, whatever).

This would take a good amount of work, making the stations, the pop-up menus, and all. But I think it would attract a large community to the mod. Opinions? :)

its look like asault .. i like the idea of force field .. but in fact.. im a fan of jailBreak .. so .. the guy who invented Jailbreak got more invention then us .... for instance

well, it's somewhat like assault, but more like Onslaught in the way that there are generators. Only in this one they are smaller and you can repair them.

What did you mean jailbreak got more 'invention'? Just wondering.

We could also set up a team survival gametype, which would be like a Team Deathmatch, only that once your dead you can't respawn until next round. And the team with the last player on the field wins.

What I was also thinking about would be a sort of invasion type thing, but instead of many monsters its one huge monster. The gametype could be called "Boss" and youd have to use teamwork to take him down. I'm thinking porportionally he could be as big as the mother headcrab in Half Life...

and its like in Red Faction 2 ,this gametype is called, Arena , witch u have only 1 weapon (to keep egallity) and u need to camp-to-survive ... anyway .. i hate this gametype .. and 90% of people will agree whit me .. seriously .. exept if u can put an auto killer for camper...

well I recall in Ut2k4 there is an advanced option in the game to automatically penalize them (somehow) for camping... but if I'm wrong, we could easily suppliment our own code in. Too bad I'm not good in that stuff...

But back on subject, comments on the CTF idea?

If it did happen, I was thinking of an idea about the health and ammo rechargers... You know how those diaper stations in public restrooms look? Yea... something like that. Something big hanging off a wall, not on the floor like we're used to. Half Life has something similiar to what I'm talking about, but my idea is that the stations reach the cieling, but don't touch the floor.

Nah this is not DA style. There lots of mods otu there that look like what you describe.
The DA idea:

D-Day, Omaha beach. Lots of big bunkers with defenders behind the machine guns, gunning down all the attacking soldiers on the beach. In DA you do sort of the same. You got prep-time to get into place before the attackers start attacking. Then you have to defend the base by gunning 'em all down. You can be overwhelmed or you got it all under control.

So, your idea does not fit into the DA idea. Thus in my opinion your idea should be discarted.

yes but to have a mini gametype of DA-CTF would be nice ;P but like with vehicles.... bring back mobile forces! :)

no problem Jig. Sorry about being so defensive on the IRC channel about it. I just think it would work out nice if it worked.

I'm currently making concepts for the inventory stations, gens, etc. for the gametype. And I will make a CTF map, later to be implemented with the codes and the static meshes. I'm not requesting this to be in the final version of the game at all, but merely just consider trying it out and seeing if you like it. It was addictive in Tribes because the game is all about fluent motion and moving rapidly in all axises, due to the jetpack included on your back. But it may be different if your hindered to the ground. But the best way to see is to try it out.

Just an idea, as usual.

Simply call it DA CTF. Because there would be all sorts of new things besides vehicles in it. Vehicles simply compliment the gametype.

It's all about the gens, forcefields, resupply and recharge stations, yo. And of coure, those cool repair guns! (I'll make a concept for that shortly, too)

For resupply you can use DA's ammobox. Maybe there will be some medic-station too? (if there wont be any medics)

There is a 80% chance of a medic class now and so far only medic classes will be able to heal you.

no. ctf has nothing to do with DA. simple. I wouldnt download DA for another ctf like game, i would download it to team up with people and defend, no attacking at all!

It doesn't have to be the only gametype Macuz :)
It's good to offer different gametypes, adds more depth to the mod. And different people like different things, the wider audience you reach, the better. Of course, with putting too many gametypes in the game, there is always the stereotype that none of them are worth anything because not enough attention was directed to each. So if we did this we would have to make sure it doesn't appeal that way.

I'm thinking that you should only be able to use the health recharge stations 2 times each 'life', or it could be a variable determined by the host of the game under the advanced options of the server.

Actually I like how they did it in the Starwars Mod. Their healing station only heals you if ur hurt and u begin to use it. It only heals you 50 points of damage, and then it sets a counter until you can use it again (usually around 5 minutes).

Just shove it in there as another game type. Use existing CTF wth da weapons + players.

We could have KOTH. That's always fun, now and then.

and if a lot of effort goes into the CTF gametype, we could call the gametype 'Base' instead. Under the description, it would go something like:
"An advanced form of Capture the Flag where each team has a base defending their flag. The base is complimented with optional defense mechanisms that you must disable before taking their flag. Vehicle support enabled."

a mini CTF gametype would rock so hard.

it can be classed as a team training exercise for human soliders, like on star ship troopers, during their training they had simulation battles of CTF :)

lol. i never saw that. i like stargate though ;-)

if my idea is actually done, watch all the n00b local servers have it being played. and people go 'WTF? what is all this new stuff in the base?' and all of a sudden they get confused. and shocked. because they never knew such a thing was possible in Ut2k4... generators, force fields, vehicle pads, CHAOS! bwhaha.
