Do you think the weapons in UT are imbalanced? Please tell which ones you think are imbalanced and why, I want to poll people because people on the GT forums are too hostile to talk to. If you don't think they are tell why too. Don't want to start a flame war though.

Personally, I think Flak is unfair, because you could just blindly shoot it and end up getting 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 frags. Minigun is unfair because you could just camp in EternalCaves, and other maps like that, and wait for respawns, which people do. Impact Hammer is unfair sometimes because you could just stand at a teleporter and wait for guys to come (hopefully not your teammates) and frag 'em. There is a weapon that is unfair to yourself though - the Ripper (is that what it's called?). I probably have 100's of headshots, performed on myself with the Ripper... /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

I think that the weapon balance is pretty good. The Flak and RL need to be overpowered for them to be effective for Hpw's to use. With Zeroping, the enforcer, shock rifle and sniper rifle become a lot more deadly, and a match for pretty well anything.
I would say that any further changes in the weapons seem to be unneccessary,IMO.

I think the weapons are well balanced. The RL, Flack cannon, and sniper rifle do the most damage, but they are each best in their own way and I think it takes skill to use any of them. The Flack is best at short range, while the RL is good for medium and slightly longer ranges. The sniper rifle is best at very long range. The minigun doesn't do as much damage in one shot, but it's pretty damn effective at medium/long range.

The only weapons I don't really care for are the ripper and single enforcer.

They're balanced, all right.
I pack a BioRifle along with my rocket launcher and sniper rifle every time.
I never have the impression that one weapon is any better than any other.

The minigun is a wierd weapon - either people SUCK with it, or kick-äss with it. There's very few inbetween (I think I'm inbetween, one of those weapons I'm trying to get better at now).

I think the weapons are very balanced and each has a purpose. Voyd said that a good player is constantly switching weapons to adapt to the situation, I totally agree, that translates into good weapon balance. I do tend to think the Flak is a little overpowering though, maybe because of the primary's fast rate of fire, it seems to promote spamming, much like the ripper. I love the minigun but like Kravnos said it was rather useless when I was an HPB. I think UT has the best balance of any FPS I have ever played.

I think each weapon has it's certain uses.
Biorifle is good when you're being chased because you can make the chaser's job a lot more difficult with it. Shock Rifles are decent in general. Rippers are good if you're a bit of a decent shot (you can rake up the Headshots). Flak is amazing at close range. RL is a decent medium/long range weapon for people who aren't too accurate. Redeemer is the ultimate inbalanced gun and is great for just about anything apart from close range attacks. Oh yeah, and don't forget the chainsaw (i love those decapitations! lurvely. much more fun than the hammer)

Not being picky or anything but why do you guys seem to be calling it the 'Plasma Rifle' because i thought it was the 'Pulse Gun' or 'Pulse Blaster'. Still, gotta love the alt-fire beam thingy. Great stuff. I can totally whop the bots with that thing.

am i the only one who thinks the shock rifle is too strong? that shock combo makes it easy for people to camp and rack up kills instantly....

Speaking of bots and the plasma rifle /~unreal/ubb/html/wink.gif, played some CTF-Conquest last night... and I dont know what settings the bots were on, but OMG - when one got a hold of the plasma rifle, it was all over. I could NOT lose him/her. There isn't a player in the world that can aim like that. I could kill the bots every time if they had any other weapon - but with that 0 ping they have, and that uncanny aim... I was toast EVERY time. Something was seriously up with those bots and plasma.

The bots seem a little too effective in holding a lock, I'd agree. But the best thing is just to mingun the bugger /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

I think the Sniper rifle reloads a little too fast, the Flak lingers a little too long, the minigun primary fire is useless in 99% of situations and the Plasma primary fire needs to travel slightly further.

Other than that it all seems fine to me, I haven't found any weapon dominating offline, online isn't a fair base for testing really as anything with an AOE immediately becomes more useful than it really is.

Shock combo is very balanced.. it takes 4 ammo! Plus for team games you have to be very carefull where your teammates are, else you kill em. UT is very cool in the fact that people can use every weapon... heck if it was on every level as much as the RL flak or ASMD, I'd get good with the ripper just to piss people off /~unreal/ubb/html/wink.gif

come on guys, do you really think the weapons are unbalanced???? someone can be insanely good with any of the weapons. This makes things seem unbalanced. i have seen people COMPLETELY dominate with the mini, flak, rocket, sniper, and asmd. This is 4 more than quake where everyone uses the rocket launcher haha. in anycase, i think that the weapons are very imbalanced, and only seem imbalanced because people take the time to master one.

PS to all of you who think that flak is not a skill weapon, you suck! Flak is so cool, because if you actually have aim with it, you can stick someone with all your flak at close range with no splash damage (unlike rockets) Also, mid range with grenades is super boss if you have skills /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

I think the shock rifles primary fire could pack a bit more punch....although it does have the combo trick. Apart from that the game is perfect!

I've heard many people complaining about the ripper and how unprofessional it is. Due to that, i have become very good with the weapon and is usually my first choice for assaulting followed by the plasma rifle and for the sniper rifle for long range and the flak for defense.

I never understood the premise behind posts questioning the balancing of weapons.

Wouldn't a game that has balanced weapons be a little boring? The variety and diffenece of each weapon is an enjoyable part of the game that game developers probably strive for. I hope they continue to.

I hated the ripper first, but after a while i learn how and WHEN to use is, and now it's my primairy weapon in small area's.
Specially the secondary fire is cool for clearing small hallway's.

And with the flak, skill is really needen, ok a single frag is easy made, but try to use is in again small area's whit killing you'rself.
Only weapon i hate is the redeemer, it look great, is blast is forminable, but it secondary fire leaves you too easy target.
Same whit a sniper, there is a mod where to can use them inscreen, but almost no server support that.
But on 1.1 magnification you still can use it effectly on short ranges
